What do you do? - Beardy - 07-06-2012 10:08 AM Personally, I've had a really boring admin job for years, but I've recently been made redundant (don't worry, I'm happy about it). What do you guys do? RE: What do you do? - DidYouKnowGaming - 07-06-2012 10:12 AM Did art and design work for games, but it looks like soon I'll be able to just work on DYKG fulltime. What games did you work on? Also, from everyone...HUZAAH! I'm well pleased that DYKG is an occupation! RE: What do you do? - The Antagonist - 07-06-2012 10:31 AM Working my ass out to become a fireman/firefighter. Although everybody says it's pretty hard to get in. Like, 20 out of 2000. Funny thing is when I was little, I loved fire. So maybe instead of putting out the fire, i'll make it bigger. More running and less gym and weights. It's more important than getting big based on force exercises. My brother hates firemen purely because of the strike here in Blighty a few years back. Will you get to slide down a pole, dude? RE: Where is the TV remote!? - BumblebeeCody - 07-06-2012 11:37 AM @DidYouKnowGaming What games, yo!? What games. WHAT GAMES!? *crazy eyes* I work in a warehouse for 8(sometimes 12 hours). Good job with decent pay. T'is one of those jobs to keep money coming in while at Uni so meh, it's good. ...but at night......I'm BATMAAAAN RE: What do you do? - Cinna - 07-06-2012 11:45 AM i'm a front line attendant and server at golden corral basically on front line i keep all the cups, teas, ice, and to-go station stocked. my area is right when you walk in the door up to the register. i keep that wiped down and swept so guests have a good first impression. our golden corral is self-serve, so after watching them take 10 minutes to decide a drink choice and fumble out the words "we have x adults, x kids, x seniors, and x drinks," i ring them up on the register and say "have a good day!" we also have hourly jobs to check the restrooms (we share that with servers), sweeping around all the bars and wiping them down, and checking food temps every 2 hours. i did just recently get promoted to front line crew trainer, so really all that means is i get to help train any new people we get on the front line, i get 7.50 an hour, and i get free meals on days i work as opposed to half-price. woo! as a server, basically i get like 8-12 tables in my section (depending on how many servers are on the floor) and i just greet them, take their dirty plates, refill their drinks, fulfill any special requests they have, and then clean the table once they leave. at the end of our shift, once we get cut, we have 45 minutes to finish taking care of our last tables (any tables that aren't on dessert are given to the person coming up next in your section), clean the whole section, restock napkins, ketchup, steak sauce, salt and pepper shakers, and sugar caddies on your tables if needed, and to do these things we call "sidework." this stuff is like cleaning certain sneezeguards on the bar, cleaning the wood on certain bars, detailing certain areas, restocking pie plates/dessert bowls/salad bowls/soup bowls/glasses/coffee cups/sugar water/silverware/plates, and just overall cleaning everything lol. on busy days, where there are a lot of servers, we only have to do 2 or 3 of this sidework stuff. on slow days, it's around 6-8. but servers get to keep all their tips, and i probably made it sound like a lot to do, but it's really a LOT easier than minimum wage front line ;p i make pretty good tips too. RE: What do you do? - PikaPikari - 07-06-2012 02:26 PM Does Marching Band count as a job? That takes up my whole life... RE: What do you do? - CFMM - 07-06-2012 03:09 PM Game designer (concept and art, no programming) with TrackMill Games*. Former community administrator and vBulletin programmer with Miniclip SA (yes that Miniclip, and they happen to be the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of working for). I am also an avid writer and performing comedian. I have attempted to run a couple of blogs with hopes that I could do what DYKG has managed to do, but failed on all counts so far. I also create hand-made sets of coasters, keychains, and wall decor made from recycled board games. *The games I have produced with TM include Bit Addiction (picross) and Steel Superstructure. I am doing work for two more games in progress, and both Bit and Steel are receiving "puzzle pack" re-releases through Steamworks later this year or early 2013. Presently, I am the executive producer (and co-host because talent is impossible to find) of a returning web series called "GMO2". It's original season kind of looks like shit, and all I can really say is its new look is much better, but due to circumstances I have agreed to I can't really say much more about it. There are people interested in seeing season two's pilot. Maybe it sounds like I'm exaggerating success. I probably am. Tomorrow morning I have an appointment with a doctor to be examined to receive disability benefits. I have no money, I am not a winner by any means. =/ RE: What do you do? - Melirune - 07-06-2012 03:18 PM Does being a father count as something that I do? Because I do that. Also, I work full time for a company that gives me money as compensation for my time and effort. Earlier this year and part of last year I worked at GameStop. RE: What do you do? - Nuudoru - 07-06-2012 07:27 PM Unemployed vagabond. I barely ever work and somehow ends up moving around anyway. My plans are to get a job and settle down here though. |
