Can you find source for the Van Damme thing?

RE: Did You Know: Mortal Kombat - Skarro - 07-04-2012 12:20 AM

Johhny Cage was just modeled after Van Damme, he was not planned to be in it. They were an incredibly unpopular company before MK1 took off and Im 90% sure it was a rumor made up based off the fact that he was modeled after him

Lui Kang is modeled after Bruce Lee.

Quote:The character was modeled after actor and martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme. Cage's appearance in the first game was loosely based on Van Damme's portrayal of Dux Ryu Ninjutsu founder Frank Dux in the 1988 movie Bloodsport, incorporating both Van Damme's appearance/outfit and his signature "leg split" move. In the original concept art, the character was named Michael Grimm, described as "the current box-office champion and star of such movies as Dragon's Fist, Dragon's Fist II and the award-winning Sudden Violence." He was the first character created for Mortal Kombat, and the test prototype of the original game had just two Johnnies fighting each other.

My favourite two are still:

Ed Boon (creator) + John Tobias (co-creator) = Tobias Boon =/= Noob Saibot.

The character Rain is purple, and is revealed to be a prince. The artist formally known as prince made an album called Purple Rain.

The one about Noob Saibot I already knew, but the one about Rain is pretty funny.

I have some MK1 DYKs:
The original name for Lu Kang was "Yo Shin Soo"
The original name for Sub-Zero was "Tundra"
The original name for Johnny Cage was Micheal Grimm
A character named Rokuro seems to be an early version of Goro
A character named "Kurtis Stryker" was planned for MK1, however he was replaced and his story was given to the female character we now know was Sonya Blade.

There are more on the source I have found these on. This website also gives more developement DYKs on other MK games: http://www.mksecrets.net/mk1/eng/mk-development.php

True, but the MK3 Stryker had a different backstory.
