Super Paper Mario: Over before it begins. - JonathanPonikvar - 06-29-2012 08:11 AM

I don't have any screenshots of this, since I no longer own the game, but perhaps someone else who owns it can take some to verify it. When I first did this it was completely by accident, and it seriously cracked me up. Many people may already know about it, but undoubtedly there are those who don't.

Oftentimes when you first start a game -- particularly an RPG -- it's almost cliché for your character to be asked by someone "Will you save our world?" Typically, if you answer "No," the game will force you back into the loop until you say "Yes." Why would you be playing the game if you didn't want to save the world, y'know?

Well in Super Paper Mario, after playing through the opening gameplay and enduring Merlon's long speech explaining everything, he asks you the same question. However, if you choose "No," Merlon asks ".... are you sure? You really won't help us?"

If you choose "No" again a couple more times (with Merlon getting more exasperated each time), he will finally sigh and say "... then all is lost." GAME OVER.

Yep! You are actually given the choice of NOT accepting your grand quest for once. Mario didn't want to save the day, so he didn't. You're given a "GAME OVER", the title screen pops up, and you have to go through the entire opening again to reach that point. Nowhere does it tell you that the game does this, and people who just keep hitting A as quickly as possible could completely miss it and never know. This is the only game I've seen that actually takes your answer to that question seriously.

I remember that. Hilarious. It actually happens again later in the game if you refuse to use the helmet in space.

Though I'm not sure if it warrants a "did you know" post in my opinion. I thought everybody knew this.

In "The path of neo" video game you are able to take the blue pill and lose the game.
