You are in charge of the next Pokemon Video Game - damerdar - 06-29-2012 01:08 AM

Describe it to us! What would be the same? What would be different? What console would it be on? Tell us about your perfect pokemon game!

RE: You are in charge of the next Pokemon Video Game - Cookiez - 06-29-2012 01:25 AM

I'd love to make the game with a normal and hard mode.

Normal mode 1st Gym: (Brock examples)
Lv 14 Geodude
Lv 16 Onix

Hard mode 1st Gym: (again Brock)
Lv 18 Geodude
Lv 18 Sandshrew
Lv 22 Onix (holding leftovers) Wink

Basically taking a mix of Red/Blue with Kaizo Blue.

I'd want it on something portable like the 3DS, but an actual console? I honestly have no idea. I'd probably base my game off more of Emerald (with all the Pokemon included) and build from there. Add more trading in-game, like good trades, not Magikarp for a Cubone. Maybe an economy system? Affected by the Pokemon? Then lastly, just a bunch more secrets and stuff in the game. Its fun to try and find them and see where it leads.

RE: You are in charge of the next Pokemon Video Game - Chomp - 06-29-2012 02:34 AM

I would combine all of the previous games, you start in Kanto and work your way to the final generation's city, but the Pokemon levels grow as you advance so it's not like you fight little weaklings each time you hit a new region.

Except this time this game would have both a console and a portable version (you know what I mean?) and you can pick up where you left off on either one. The TV console version would have more advanced graphics like it would be in 3rd person view and the battle system would look similar to Pokemon Stadium.

I think the Wii U would be perfect for this, and if it could pair up with the 3DS for even more portability, that would be insane.

RE: You are in charge of the next Pokemon Video Game - Slam - 06-29-2012 02:35 AM

A game like 2 Gen, they picked in Johto (new) and remade Kanto.
It would be a game like that with all Gens, all gyms, all pokemons, all rivals and of course, for 3DS

RE: You are in charge of the next Pokemon Video Game - Xannidel - 06-29-2012 03:34 AM

My idea is probably something that EVERYONE has thought of, you play as a Team Rocket grunt!
You start off as a lowly grunt and you get to pick between 3 pokemon (a rattatta, a koeffing or an eakens) and what you have to do is pull of specific heists like stealing from a poke center or from someone house and you earn money and work your way up from there.

I am sure people can put more effort into this but I am sort of sleep deprived at the moment and my brain is barely working as it is.

RE: You are in charge of the next Pokemon Video Game - Alex - 06-29-2012 04:01 AM

pokemon yellow: 15th anniversary (next year) remake.

or the obvious hd skyrim-style rpg for consoles.

A Pokémon game where you have to fight a dictator that despises Pokémon being used for battles, he think they should be used for work Humans don't want to do, friendships and trust can't be made with Pokémon etc.

But really, I think a Pokémon game where you start a world where Pokémon battles are outlawed, and any trainers found will be sent to jail because of the Dictator that hasn't been taken out of Power.

I mean wouldn't it be awesome for you to start a rebellion and try to get loads of people to help you when you finally attack at once, in a sort of Fable 3 manner, acquiring people to take down the king.

Instead of getting 8 badges through Gym leaders to beat the elite four, you have to go to each city, and find it's ex-gym leader, and get their trust, you have to find an underground resistance in each town/city, and enter it. Upon doing so, it acts like a gym, to see if you are worthy and tough for them to help, once you beat them, they give you their old badge, as a sign they'll help you.

And possibly half way through you get captured and you talk to the Dictator face to face, but you soon escape.

Then right at the end, once you storm through his guards and finally get to him he tells you this.

"You, "Player name" you think you can stop me? I've been a successful ruler of this land for longer than you were born and I'm not letting a 10 year old take me out of my position for nothing, but you want to know something funny, I may outlaw Pokémon battles for you, but I don't, I train my Pokémon all the time. Not only that, I assembled teams that would beat any Pokémon type! Do you know what that means? I'll tell you! I am the most powerful Trainer in the world!"

And then this music plays. (or a variation)

I know it's not really thought out and developed, but it's basically the main idea.

I'd make a game for the Wii U that played like Pokemon Colosseum and XD control wise, but was like the GBA games gameplay wise. You'd start out in a sort of post-apocalyptic Kanto where, after an epic battle between Mew and the Legendary Birds who had been captured by Team Rocket in an attempt to obtain Mew's allegedly limitless power, which threw off the balance of nature and caused the resources to deplete, and the remainder falling under Rocket's control, meaning they're in charge of everything. You'd play as the son of a Rocket Admin who was misled by his father into thinking that they helped people, and witnesses Pokemon being horribly abused by by your father and his friends. You decide to dedicate your life to helping pokemon and getting revenge on Team Rocket, while also uncovering secrets of the corporations history and how years ago, a young boy was able to overthrow the entire organization with the help of his friends and his pokemon. Eventually you'd face off against your father, after defeating his henchmen and ruining the organization, with an epic and emotional dialog, leading to the final battle with this music playing in the background:

The game is focused, like the others, around you growing not only stronger as a trainer, but learning how to coexist with the wonderful world around you and create bonds with your pokemon. I think this would be a more compelling goal in general, you'd feel a deeper connection to the story and getting revenge on your dictator father (who has put out a giant warrant of food and supplies to whoever brings you in). He also sends out stronger admins and bosses to find you, and when they do, they become sort of like Gym leaders in that there is one admin per type, or it could just be 8 and the finals, not too sure at this point.

Anyways, the gameplay is sort of a refined 3D hybrid of Coliseum and the GBA games, you run around in full 3D environments and trainers like Coliseum, and there are random battles and tall grass like the GBA games, with a structure more based on them. No shadow pokemon or snagging here, just good old tall grass (although maybe, to fix the random battle issue, you have pokemon running around like in Dragon Quest 9 in the grass, where they're harder to see, but still legible, instead of random encounters?). The music would be epic and more akin to games like Deus Ex and Skyrim in scope, as opposed to the 16 bit tracks of old, not to be rude to the legends or anything, but I could go for some battling while listening to stuff like this. (<-Link)

The controls would work great with the Wii U's tablet, the table would work for everything interface-wise, like the DS's touch screen, while you could watch the High def Pokemon battles on screen. You could be running around while rearranging your party and inventory. You could also go co op with your friends over WiFi and explore the world together. It'd take place in a massive remained Kanto from Red/Blue and FireRed/LeafGreen.

Feedback?

RE: You are in charge of the next Pokemon Video Game - damerdar - 06-29-2012 10:40 AM

The gameplay is completely overhauled. Instead of turn-based combat, the battles are in real time, with the player taking direct control of the pokemon. The battles would be very similar to the battles from the show, where the pokemon are actively dodging, and moving the terrain, as well as transforming the battlefield as they leave craters and other terrain features caused by their abilities.

The player would be able to start in any of the regions, but once they beat the first region, they would be able to travel to any of the others. Each region would have its own elite four, but there would be a National Elite that can only be challenged once the player has defeated each of the elite four.

The legendary pokemon would be much more difficult to obtain, and would have game-changing effects on the world, akin to one of the movies. If the player wants to capture one of the legendary creatures, they are going to have to go on an intense adventure just for a single chance.

The game would also be much more adult. Team Rocket isn't some silly group of goons that mess around in the world. They are a terrorist organization, capable of wreaking havoc in the world and, if left alone, possibly able to level cities and control the world with their technology and pokemon. The same goes for some of the other teams, although there would be a mastermind behind all the teams that stays in the shadows and controls their actions.

The world would be much more massive than in any of the games, because the world is really a world. Viridian Forest isn't a small forest that can be traversed in 10 minutes. It is a full forest, with a lot more hidden in its depths than a few bug catchers and a great ball. All of those interesting adventures that happen in the show? Those are somewhere in there, or something akin to the them.

Most of the HM's are gone. If a player wants to surf to a small island, they can get a pair of swim trunks and eventually a surf-board, which would act as a bike for in the water. If a player wants to see in the dark, get a freakin' flashlight. If they want to get past a small shrubbery, just walk past it. Pokemon that could use HM's before, can instead do these kind of things in battle. If a pokemon could learn surf, than they can swim fairly quickly in combat. If they could learn fly, they can literally fly around the battlefield. If they could learn strength, they might start chucking boulders and such about the battlefield, without the need of a move that does this.

On the subject of moves. Each pokemon would still only have the 4 moves that they could know, but some of the moves are built into every pokemon. The pokemon would have extra slots specifically for normal, melee attacks, such as tackle, scratch, and slash. In addition, some abilities might be completely re-done or reimagined. Quick attack now increases the pokemon's movement and attack speed for a short time, while fire punch might "enchant" the pokemon's melee attacks for a short time to deal additional fire damage.

Wow, I wrote a lot more than I expected myself to.

I'd drop all the pseudo-3D shit they're trying to do with the newer games and stick to the nice, pretty, strictly 2D graphic style that was used in R/S/E. That's my biggest and probably my only complaint with the newer games.

On the topic of real time combat, is that not what Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is going to do with the familiars?
