Because while Mass's post is funny, I've seen some of the worst things from stupid bots. I used to be a moderator over at the Hawthorne Heights forums, back when they had it up before closing it down due to all the overwhelming bots. It was so bad over there, they all of us moderators had to set up a schedule just so we can take care of the spammers!

Every day, we would deal with porn bots. Yeah, that's right, porn bots! You have no idea how disgusting it is, because you could pretty much see anything.

Having never really used forums in the past (other than to be the person who creates an account to ask a question for help), I've never really encountered this kind of spam. So far it's tenable I think. If it gets too drastic, we could perhaps resort to a system wherein a new user's first posts must be approved by a moderator before appearing. Then, if the user is vetted, they could thenceforth post like any other person.
That being said, let's hope it doesn't come to that !

Hahahaha that's brilliant

"The secret of Vanishing Oil Paintings" makes me so curious !

I hate to break your bubble here but it's "varnishing" Tongue

Though he did have some actually weird ones like asking where New Jersey should be located and something about a towel insurance.

The sad part is, no one even bothers to proof read their own spam mail.

Btw. Regarding your post just above mine, you could at least cut the number of link using bots by doing the same thing we did: have a one week (or whatever amount of time you prefer) period after joining when you cannot post links. That should make the posts not appear at all.

Well, either there's more easter eggs in Resident Evil than I remember, or that bot got banned quick.

RE: The Free Thread - Mass Distraction - 02-05-2013 09:02 AM

It would've gotten banned quicker if I had been an admin when that happened Tongue

I don't get it, you seem to think that towel insurance is a joke...

Of course it is. All they do is get high and hand around. The only insurance you need is lung and heart based.

Found me a kitteh!! That's the best photo I could take. She was busy rubbing up against everything and getting her scent everywhere.

She has HUGE eyes and sometimes she sits straight up on her hind legs like a meerkat all by herself.

She's also not fond of sleeping just yet. But I heard that's normal for a little while with new cats and they will get used to your schedule.

RE: The Free Thread - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 02-06-2013 11:53 PM

You cannot see me but I'm swearin' and a cussin' to emphasise how damn cute that cat is.

Motion - MOAR PICTURE/VIDEO.

I think I'm going to go with the name Nola. It's short for New Orleans (a vacation favorite for me) and it is almost Mardi Gras.
