Better not tell him where system32 is located.

Flash is really dangerous and threatens the smooth running of toolbars. Wise move.

Flash is also really important to watch videos and stuff, which he does do on occasion.

I'm watching the Top 100 Songs of the 90s on Vh1 right now. Currently, MC Hammer is coming in in the top 20 with "Can't Touch This". I can not describe this nostalgia I am experiencing at the very moment.

Also, I got drunk and made a twitter a few weeks ago. @BewareOfCuccos (duh.)

Aww man.. now RHCP with "Under The Bridge". This has been the best few hours of my week.

Did anyone else go to YouTube/their iTunes library to listen to that after reading that post?

RE: The Free Thread - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 02-03-2013 02:13 AM

Well hot cocks, my laptop is at it again.

Last week, the partition of my harddrive was corrupt so I had to wipe one to get my laptop to bloody work again (bear in mind I'm totally unversed in technology so I may not make sense).
And now -
- I can't press the start button
- I can't save documents on Word/Excel
- I can't delete files on my laptop
- My hardrives show up, but have no names and I can't actually do anything to them apart from explore
- I can't copy paste any file

Anyone know what's going on ? I'm close to resolving the resetting to factory settings of my laptop.

As a word of advice, when dealing with computer problems, Google is your best friend, but if this has happened multiple times you might wanna just re-install Windows, and if it happens again after that and you know you didn't get a virus or anything then you should buy a new computer, because that would mean something is wrong with the hardware, either that or you aren't doing something properly and corrupting the data, but unless you seriously know nothing about computers, it's pretty hard to do that. Also if that much crap was going wrong on my computer I'd just re-install Windows anyway, because what that says to me is you basically can't do anything.

Edit: Just thought of this, try going into safe mode with administrative properties, to do that hold the F8 key when it's booting and you will get three options, Safe mode, Safe mode with administrative properties, and Safe mode with networking, you might be able to do stuff in there. (The last one lets you get to the internet, the other two don't)

RE: The Free Thread - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 02-03-2013 06:32 AM

The thing is, I can do everything I can usually do, so long as it doesn't involve using explorer. I can browse and open files, surf the web, play games, watch videos, word process (though without saving), etc.

My laptop's 4 1/2 years old so it may just be going senile. I'll do a factory reset tomorrow and see what happens.

RE: The Free Thread - cingchris - 02-03-2013 07:18 AM

Well that there's some information I can work with, if it's just Windows Explorer being screwy and nothing else, your video drivers may be corrupted, or just some other files that have to do with Windows Explorer. If you can access the command prompt, try doing a system scan, you do that by typing Sfc /scannow into it and if you can't access the command prompt, if you can save notepad files you can also type cmd into there and make the file extension .bat when you save it, then if you run it, it will open up a command prompt. Also because I'm a nice guy, if you need me to I can just do that for you and have you download the .bat file from my Mediafire if you can't save notepad files.

RE: The Free Thread - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 02-03-2013 07:54 AM

That would be great if you could make that .bat file for me. I tried to change a .txt to .bat but it wouldn't let me. No error message or anything, just didn't let it change after I had typed in .bat.

RE: The Free Thread - cingchris - 02-03-2013 08:04 AM

http://www.mediafire.com/?5r3f576td83pv9t
It's up, just make sure you use Internet Explorer to download it, because then you can save it to you desktop because IE always asks you where to put saved downloaded files.

Edit: Oh, hahaha, I know what was wrong with the old file, I named it cmd.bat so when it would open it just told the command prompt to open cmd, so it would search all my files for anything named cmd and it would find the .bat file I made before it found the command prompt, and therefore open and restart the process so the code in the command prompt that it opened would just keep repeating that it opened that file. Also because it sounds really weird saying that it doesn't open the command prompt but does at the same time so this error can happen, .bat files will open a command prompt no matter what and do what it thinks you're telling it to do with whatever you typed in it, so it just opened a command prompt that would open cmd, and it so happened it would find my file before it just found the command prompt and ran that.
