April Fool's DYKG - HyperSonicN1 - 02-22-2013 07:19 AM

We need to think about something.

What about some joke DYKGs?

"Square Enix was supposed to develop a Super Mario 2D platformer. After the game was finished, though, Nintendo decided to drop the project. Square Enix decided to keep the level design and implement it in Final Fantasy XIII"

"Mario was originally supposed to be slim, and to live in Europe. When it was ultimately decided to change his living place to America, though, Nintendo decided to tweak his appearance"

RE: April Fool's DYKG - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 02-22-2013 07:33 AM

This is an excellent idea Big Grin

I think there's sufficient fuel for this in the Fake DYKG Thread. That being said, it should sound dead serious. Most of the Fake DYKG Thread posts are ridiculous Wink

EDIT - Removed the quote to the first post.

What about fake spoilers for a game that doesn't exist? People will still go crazy.

"In X, before the final boss fight against the Emperor, if you analyze the speech part in which he reveals to be the the protagonist's brother, you can see how he hints at how you could have realized it before, when the protagonist's fake best friend appears in the background of the brother's fake death screen. In the same screen, you can see how the bast friend took one of the Power Gems from him, hinting at how after the Emperor/brother you still have to fight him."

Or even better, something called "DYK KH3 release date easter egg" and then put, instead of a normal DYKG picture, the image of the "unable to load" Internet Explorer pic

While we're at it, we could throw in something about secret cross over weapons in games which timeline wise could not do that, like Gordan Freeman appearing in the original quake.

or, while we're at it, just throw in a half life 3 "hint".

The problem with an "unable to load" image is some people may use Mozilla Firefox, like me.

That's true. We could always just say that it's a spoiler on the main page, and to read it you must go on the specific page, and clicking on the link sends you to a 404 error page

I think we should actually do some fake ones you'd believe, but it's outrageous.

Something relating to Kojima, because you wouldn't know if it was true or not.

DID YOU KNOW? Hideo Kojima got the idea for the Metal Gear exclamation mark when he was writing a letter and he saw a snake crawling on his lawn as he was writing an "!".

They'll never see it coming.

DID YOU KNOW? During the development of F.E.A.R. the main character 'Point man' was originally design to have a voice, and his catchphase was "Groooooovy~".

RE: April Fool's DYKG - Ouberry_13 - 02-26-2013 02:50 PM

I got it. Did you know: Luigi was the original design for Mario, but Miyamoto thought the color green wasn't masculine enough, so now Luigi is the 'joke' in the Mario universe.

Or how about, Did you know: Capcom was going to make a sequel to the cult favorite God Hand, but during the initial designing process, the director of the original GH, Shinji Mikami, walked into the office and pimp slapped the Capcom execs who wanted to make a sequel. This is the real reason he left Capcom.

RE: April Fool's DYKG - Moriatti - 02-26-2013 03:11 PM

Did you know? SUDA 51 was originally supposed to design a prequel to Megaman, taking place before the original game. However, the end result was considered by Capcom to be "too dark" and ended up becoming Killer7.

RE: April Fool's DYKG - Berry - 02-26-2013 09:35 PM

Did you know there was gonna be a crossover between Metroid and the Resident Evil series where Titular Samus character was to visit the Resident Evil settings but Nintendo rejected when Capcom showed them the PS1 version.

RE: April Fool's DYKG - BumblebeeCody - 02-28-2013 04:57 AM

C'mon guys this sounds more like a Kotaku thread than April Fools.

Nintendo once worked with Bungie to produce a FPS in which Samus was going to appear with Master Chief. There's even code within the game showing parts of Samus's model and dialogue.

In Super Smash Brothers Brawl, a cracked version of the Japanese release revealed that the unlockable "demos" of previous classic titles could be further unlocked into full versions of each game using a hacked save file. The US version also featured this trick; in fact, diving further in, it was even discovered to contain the full version of Earthbound hidden in its code. The game's title was simply removed from the demo selection screen, but never deleted from the final game's code. This means Earthbound did indeed see a re-release in the US, but is completely unplayable through conventional means.

In the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger (as part of the Final Fantasy Chronicles release), Schala was added as a hidden unlockable character. Unlocking her requires a completed save file from Chrono Cross to be present on the memory card with the final ending achieved. Simply rescue her in Cross and then play Trigger until Magus joins your party; speaking to the survivors of Zeal with him as the lead character will unlock her side quest, which will end with her being rescued from the Black Omen and added to the party.

"Did you know that the upcoming game "Remember Me" should have been called "Forget me", and featured a protagonist that, haunted by his past, wanted to forget everything to start a new life. When Capcom decided to publish it, though, they put a very strict deadline, and it was therefore decided to implement a more usual storyline to make development more easy"

"Did you know that Valve was supposed to make a futuristic Call of Duty game in cooperation with Electronic Arts, but the latter decided to stop its production after a few months' time, as the result "wasn't the kind of game people would have liked these days". Valve continued the development, and the final product is now known as Portal"

"Did you know that the first Did You Know pic on the Did you Know Gaming website actually isn't a Did you know?"
