It's just pandering to the mass market. They know that hardcore gamers are going to buy the PS4, so don't feel the need to try and woo them as much as people who may be attracted to this whole "social gaming" experience.

Mmm true. But that's such a bad start when you give more time to a button on a controller than the actual controller itself. It's like Nintendo going
"Oh well here we have this high definition touch screen which pretty makes this an extremely powerful DS and it can do this and do that BUT now, screw that. We know you care about the Netflix app so lets talk about that for 30 minutes".

That's what I love Nintendo conferences. It's all about games and then apps and downloads services are this after thought.
Sony and Microsoft are trying to make this super duper all-in-one media center that plays games.

My favorite part about Microsoft's conferences is that they're still trying to tell people about Kinect. It's so hilarious, it reminds me back in the time Xbox fanboys were laughing at Nintendo fanboys. Well WHO'S LAUGHING NOW? Big Grin

So... I take it the conference didn't go well then.

Personally, I am laughing, not at the kinect, or the wii, or at the move, or motion controls, but at the insistence that they have in it becoming a mainstay peripheral which seems to have oh so poorly sold to manufacturers.

RE: Sony's announcements - Xannidel - 02-21-2013 02:28 PM

I thought the announcement went well enough. Apparently Sony's stocks took a 2% nosedive either during or after the announcement because *gasp* they did not show their console...Really? That's a silly reason to link those two together, what they did show looked really awesome and I am interested to see more. Also screw you Blizzard with your shitty D3 port that no one asked for...EVER. And Square Enix for hinting at a new FF title but that is it, GIVE US VERSUS!!!

I am not a big fan of Bungie so I am not too thrilled for their next title. I still need to beat InFamous 2 because my game had a bug/glitch where the game would freeze like 75% of the way through and I did not really wanna re do all of that at the time.

The new Naughty Dog game looked interesting if not cliche

New Killzone title looks okay I suppose.

RE: Sony's announcements - Ouberry_13 - 02-21-2013 03:46 PM

Nothing really interested me much. The only thing I kinda thought was cool was the new InFamous, if only because I'm assuming it follows InFamous 2's bad ending
Anyway, I'm kinda feeling pretty meh over Square these past few years, and since this year, nothing new about Versus or a Western release of Type-0 was announced, my meh feeling continues.

Though, I did like how Yoshiro prefaced his bit with the whole "This is not about Street Fighter."

Also, where was Team Ico at? They somehow went an entire generation without releasing a new game *cough*Last Guardian*cough*

RE: Sony's announcements - A Zombie Riot - 02-21-2013 05:07 PM

So, the actual 30 minutes that I missed was just social stuff? That's good, at least.

The 3rd party games are looking amazing. And it's getting me excited.

Sony has now announced that the PS4 will NOT block used games and will play them.

Yeah once the console and games got rolling then the conference was pretty good.

The Diablo 3 announcement was good but I don't like how PC gamers were affected by this as well.

That was another problem as well. Bungies new game....another FPS. Great.

The new Killzone does look great but meh...another FPS and nothing in that video stood out (apart from the graphics).

Nice to see a trailer for The Witness (even if Jonathan Blows was a tad "I dislike mainstream").

Dunno what to make of this:

And lastly, none of this instant gaming stuff will eve work with the way the Internet speeds around the world are like. In Korea sure, but not in the U.K.

You can pre-order some PS4 games and controllers from Shopto already.

Also this is a thing that made me laugh too hard:

Would you honestly have them work in another genre? Considering the fact that they pretty much reinvented FPS on the console again, and pretty much created Xbox Live.

FPS's is what they're good at. It's what they're great at.

"We forgot to take a photo of the flippin' console !"

RE: Sony's announcements - retrolinkx - 02-22-2013 05:46 AM

Heh. This is starting to turn out like the Dreamcast and the PS2, with the Wii U and PS4.

Sony cannot into conference. They showed off about 4 exclusives, and then showed multiplats, social gaming and how powerful their console is (and from what I've heard it's not that powerful).

For a 2 hour conference that is not how you do it. You show us games that are impressive, not just current gen games with more blur and such. Killzone looked good, but I could imagine current gen consoles doing this pretty easily, although I understand in time the console will look better, we'll just have to wait and see.

At least when Nintendo announced the Wii U, it had potential, that screen adds to the gameplay in so many ways. Sony's PS4 controller does nothing as far as I can tell.

I'll give them a D-, they showed some games, but about 1 hour of the show was talking with more talking and then social gaming, and terrible things that don't even appeal to casuals.

Still getting it though. Being an Idort is glorious.

Because it's another unoriginal idea. If have that many talented people on your team and all you do is make FPSs, then yo're limiting what you can do. You make 6 or so Halo games, only to go back to making Halo on the PS3.

That, and they originally made strategy games for mac.

I will definitely be getting a PS4. I hate that I'll have to keep my PS3 due to lack of backwards compatibility, but I guess it's not that big of a deal. I'm excited for most of the announced games. A new inFamous game? Ah hells yes!
