The Renunciation of Pope Benedict XVI - Ga2sert - 02-14-2013 08:43 AM

Before thinking "OH MY GOD CATOLIC S**TTY THREAD", just read everything, ok?
Well, everyone here probably know the Pope is renoucing(if you don 't, just google it in your language or click here). I'm not here to make a religious discussion(I'm not even sure about my own religious beliefs anyway), just wanna know what everyone thinks about the pope, the renunciation or both.
I think Benedict, differently from John Paul II, couldn't "attract" young people to Catholicism because of his statements about condoms, gay marriage etc etc and the scandals about pedophilia. It all made him look TOO conservative and un-charismatic.
I just hope Vatican chooses a not-so-polemic new pope, someone able to speak with the new generations.

Well I think he's made the right and humble decision of stepping down. If he doesn't feel up to the job, he shouldn't have to go on.

I wish him all the best in his retirement, and hope that his successor will be able to reconnect catholicism to modern life.

I totally agree. Actually, before seeing the news, I didn't know a Pope could renounce.

Neither did I, but when I heard the news I just thought "oh yeah, why not"

Same actually. But renounce is just sugar coating.
In the same way Nixon "renounced" himself as President after Watergate. Mmmm. Sounds nicer that way.

The funny thing is I didn't know about this until yesterday. I saw a flash animation making a joke on it but didn't realise it was a real story(can't find it though).

After allegations of paedophilia, what he says about gays, condoms(LOOOL) and the Vatileaks of last year, I'm surprise he hasn't been thrown in jail or had Chris Hansen ask him " why don't you take a seat over there"?
But he gets away with it. I wonder if the next Pope will be Chinese or gay?

Wait, the pope was a pedo?

It's not known if he himself was peadophile but he used his power to cover the priests that molested younger boys (some of them deaf). That was in 2010 I think. It's one of the (many) reasons he "stepped down". It wouldn't surprise me if he was a peadophile though so*shrugs*. When you have a "loyal" following of nearly over a billion, I'm sure you can get away with anything regardless of what you say or do.
