GameStop and BestBuy are dying - Psychospacecow - 02-06-2013 01:02 PM Caution to our younger audience. This video is not recommended for you. Machinima has a bad tendency of having unnecessarily brash and inappropriate newscasters and this one is a prime example. Seriously, the censorship button is well used here. 500 gamestops are closing down this year. 200 of Bestbuy's store are closing as well. Edit : the guy who did that video "was kidnapped by gamestop employes" RE: GameStop and BestBuy are dying - Xannidel - 02-06-2013 01:12 PM Meh with how popular online stores are I would not be surprised to see this happen with more retails stores. Me neither, in a way this seems almost like old news. The only person this might affect is my roommate, who is currently working at a Gamestop. RE: GameStop and BestBuy are dying - A Zombie Riot - 02-06-2013 01:24 PM I used to like both of these stores very much. But time after time again, I keep hearing bad things about both of these stores. Like a blu-ray player my dad got from Best-Buy. They wouldn't give him a full refund on it, even though it was under warranty, because it was an out-of-date model. And with gamestop, I'm always hearing that they're opening new copies of games and selling them as new. RE: GameStop and BestBuy are dying - Nicknclank - 02-06-2013 01:58 PM Well, I actually liked BestBuy for some electronic I always need (such as headphones, iPod, etc.) Actually, I thought stuff like that only happened in the United-States, buuuuuuuut... A few days ago, I heard a lot of BestBuys closed in Quebec without really telling anyone, and even the employees didn't seem to know! They'll get their pay for 2 weeks still, buy man, pretty harsh... Same, minus the friend. It really worries me because most of my tech comes from either best buy or new egg, and I prefer best buy for smaller things. RE: GameStop and BestBuy are dying - CosmykTheDolfyn - 02-06-2013 09:30 PM It's a shame that people will be losing jobs, but the closest Best Buy and Game Stop to my home are both well over a half hour drive from my home(live on an old farm in the country). I used to go to place like that when I could buy used games at a reasonable price, but that is no longer possible at Gamestop. So, Ebay is my friend. RE: GameStop and BestBuy are dying - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 02-06-2013 10:06 PM Yeah, last week in the news they announced that quite a few Best Buys were closing throughout Canada. Can't say I've ever been to one but hopefully more stores will come in to replace them. If not, and if there aren't that many significant online retailers, prices are going to start creeping up and the internet will no longer be the cheap alternative to the high street. RE: GameStop and BestBuy are dying - BumblebeeCody - 02-06-2013 11:57 PM They opened Best Buy in the U.K and it was only open for a a few months. I think it's great these bullshi- stores go out. Same happened with GAME. They closed around 200 stores and I couldn't care. I hate the BS they put on games by trying to be important to the industry, so yeah, fugg 'em. Obviously it sucks for those who work there and I don't find that funny at all. It's the way the business works that I hate, not the people. I've been buying my NEW games online for such a long time now and all my Pre-owned from places like Gamestation. If Microsoft/Sony want their console to fail, then they should both go through with that no pre-owned crap. B-Bro...That's a low blow XD Also kind of random to add that in. I mean in that, Micro$oft and $ony are "potentially trying" to stamp out these pre-owned retailers, but if they do, the console will fail. If it is a low-blow, then I hope it hurts. RE: GameStop and BestBuy are dying - Mass Distraction - 02-07-2013 10:04 AM Considering that there's like one or two Gamestops in this country and BestBuy... Well, no one here has propably never even heard of one so no, not really. RE: GameStop and BestBuy are dying - Arjahn - 02-07-2013 10:08 AM All I now is that my friend is pissed off at Gamestop because he didn't get his preordered Fire Emblem Awakening on time because of that there shipping clusterf*ck you might've heard about, but I always liked Gamestop well enough, you can grab a brick of really good older games for the cost of an opened new one (that they peddle for $60 AHEM). Whenever I do buy a newly released game, I just go next door to Target since there's this one awesome employee who puts stuff out early, ala why I owned a physical copy of Fire Emblem before the release date. You're doing your country proud. *Pats butt* RE: GameStop and BestBuy are dying - Zaliphone - 02-08-2013 08:02 AM I enjoy my local GameStop, there are still some older games that I'd like to play and those actually have a fair price. They may be annoying with the asking of questions and questionable business practices, but I can always rely on getting a game from there. Although, like Arjahn said, I'd be better off going to a Target for newer games. In fact, when I bought my 3DS they gave me a $50 gift card, which I then used to buy a second game. And on more than other occasions, they have given out smaller $5 gift cards, just for getting a game on release day. |
