Square-Enix: Voice Actors for Axel and Reno - Pogue-Mahone - 02-01-2013 11:08 AM

The voices for Axel from the Kingdom Hearts series and Reno from the Final Fantasy VII series are played by the same voice actor in many different languages. Both characters also bear a striking resemblance.

English: Quinton Flynn
French: Jean Christophe Parquier
Spanish: Víctor Martínez
German: Philipp Brammer
Japanese: Keiji Fujiwara

Tetsuya Nomura stated that this is done intentionally as an experiment. He wanted to place a familiar character in a new environment and role. He also stated in an interview that the two are "different people, but subconsciously alike".

Intriguing little bit of info. Did they do anything like that with other characters?

Not with the Square characters, but they kinda did that with some of the Disney characters in Kingdom Hearts. They got some of the actors from the films to reprise their roles from the Disney movies, like James Woods for Hades and Gilbert Gottfried for Iago. But for some of the other characters, like Genie, they got Dan Castelaneta instead of Robin Williams. Dan voiced Genie in the Aladdin animated series.

Interesting... I am not surprised about same role people, but still interesting.
