Pretty much games that have unbearably hard parts, or just bits that are annoying.

Like in Fire Emblem when my strongest character was crit hit for about 50 damage by the end boss, and I had to do the entire chapter again.

Or in Mega Man, when I used to die from things that would shoot at me out of screen, or if I'd just fall into a death pit without knowing.

Sonic has this as well, running really really fast, then a random enemy that I can't avoid hurts me and I lose all my rings.

Games annoy me a lot, but it's usually little things that old games had that games these days don't have.

Dante's Inferno. The story pisses me off so much, considering I have read and love the original epic poem. And the game basically shits on the poem and the real Dante himself. And of course, we have Treachery, the part of the game that is pretty much a gauntlet in the same vein as the secret missions in any DMC game. Seriously, you are forced into fight after fight with certain instructions on how to beat the stage or else you die. One of them was "Stay in the air and kill all the enemies, without ever touching the ground." That's not something that should part of the main game.

Asura's Wrath. I wish I had a video showing my facial expressions when I was playing the game. I was slowly getting more and more pissed, until eventually I had an AVGN moment when I beat it. I played through it all in one day, less than 5 hours. And then, after all that, the game ends without giving me an actual ending, telling me to replay everything until I get an "A" rank on all the missions, which I went back and did. Then, after doing that, I unlock the "true ending," which is nothing more than 2 extra minutes added on the "non-true ending" that doesn't explain anything. Come to find out, the "really true ending" IS PAID DLC! This was back in my previous college when I had a roommate, and I think I gave him a heart attack with how pissed I was. I think I ranted and screamed about the game and its bullshit 'ending' for an hour straight before finally calming down and going outside to cool off. I really wish I could have some way to show you people how angry I was, because I think that's the angriest I've ever been.

I hate QTEs. Well, kinda. I don't mind them if they are used correctly and in moderation but games that force me to mash random buttons every five minutes so I won't die piss me off.

Unlike Resident Evil 4.

I friggin' hate that Krause battle. Sat my controller down to sip from my drink and watch a cutscene then BAM I'm dead.

>Finish Chapter of game
>Cutscene
>Put controller down on chest
>Watch 4 minute long cutscene
>Suddenly QTE
>Scramble for controller
>Die
>Have to go through entire cutscene again

My opinion is that either have the game consist of QTEs or have none at all. God of War? Good. Heavy Rain? Good. Resident Evil 4? Aw hell naw.

Worst case scenario, you douse yourself and everything around you in whatever you were just going to drink when that happens.

Resident Evil seems to add more and more QTEs with every main title and it always gets worse, to the point where in RE6 you have to keep mashing the buttons almost constantly. I can only wait for RE7, also known as QTE: The Game. I'm actually happy that in the next update for RE6 there will be a QTE helper available for very difficulty that does them for you. Sadly, it means half the game plays itself for you.

QTEs are pretty bad when misused, which is often now. Take Bayonetta for example...It didn't have many QTEs, thankfully, but most of them came in the middle of a cutscene, or at a really awkward time during a cinematic sequence in which you had to press a button at exactly the right time or else you were dead. That game was pretty much perfect otherwise, though.

RE: Games That Piss You Off - Xannidel - 02-06-2013 02:54 AM

I think Heavy Rain was one of the better games that knew how to implement QTEs.
Personally I never had a positive or negative feeling towards QTEs, if I fail em then I fail em and start over again.

Not even if they catch you completely off guard during a cutscene and you have to go through the whole thing again? Or is it just something that never happened to you Tongue

RE: Games That Piss You Off - Xannidel - 02-06-2013 04:25 AM

I normally don't set my controller down in a cutscene and if I aim to go afk, or afc in this case, then I make sure to pause the game because I normally like to watch the cutscenes. Well okay the first time I play a game I do and if I play a game twice then I skip cutscenes assuming they do not involve QTEs but that is just me.

Borderlands and Borderlands 2. They're just so damn repetitive, and they both follow the same formula.
TALK TO GUY
GET QUEST TO GO TO AREA WITH BAD GUYS
APPROACH AREA WITH BAD GUYS
HAVE SHOOTOUT WITH BAD GUYS
PICK UP BAD GUYS' STUFF
REPEAT TWELVE TIMES
Either fight a boss, find an item, activate a switch or a combination.
GO BACK TO GUY
GET REWARD
RINSE AND REPEAT FOR 20 HOURS.

I want to like the games, and admittedly some of the boss fights are legitimately entertaining, but it's just so damn repetitive.
I think I brought this up in the overrated games thread, oh well.

Its an FPS in role play form. Its just like fallout minus big choices because its meant to be played multiplayer with friends. You try having a dynamically changing world multiplayer style where profiles sync together without serious issues.

That's mostly why I skipped out on Borderlands 2, because it looked like it played almost exactly like Borderlands 1.
