There are hints that Ana may actually be Ness's Mom in Earthbound for the SNES. The translation of Earthbound Zero and the Game Boy Advance port of Mother 1+2 retroactively change the first game's date from 1988 to 1980, making it possible for Ana to have a child Ness's age in 199X. Gamebook art for Ness's Mother also shows her holding a frying pan which was Ana's weapon of choice in Earthbound Zero and they possess some physical similarities.
Of course, this also suggests that Ninten is Ness's father, the biggest nod to this being that Ness's father gives Ness his signature hat when he is a baby, a hat that is very similar to the one Ninten wears in Earthbound Zero.
