Bayonetta/Devil May Cry Tidbits - Pogue-Mahone - 01-12-2013 09:13 AM With Bayonetta 2 and DmC Devil May Cry releases on the way this year, why not celebrate with a little trivia from both the series? There is even a little bit of Viewtiful Joe as well... In Bayonetta, Luka's father is a journalist named Antonio Redgrave that studied the history of the Umbra Witches, Lumen Sages, and a bunch of the mosnters in the Bayonetta game. In Devil May Cry, Dante used the alias Tony Redgrave in his early demon hunting days. When asked about the connection, DMC director Hideki Kamiya said that "Antonio Redgrave was a journalist that Dante respected, so he used it as his fake name during his days as a mercenary in Bobby's Cellar." So at one point in time, Dante was either friends or at least an acquaintance with Luka's father Antonio. Hehehe, heard that in a game once." -Referencing The Merchant from Resident Evil 4 2. "No matter how much you ask, I'm not puttin' a chainsaw on your arm. Now, what do you want?" - A reference to another Sega game MadWorld, where the protagonist Jack Cayman has a chainsaw gauntlet, OR maybe a reference to Ash Williams from the Evil Dead Series. Jack Cayman: Ash Williams: Source: http://bayonetta.wikia.com/wiki/Rodin#Quotes During the events of Bayonetta, the character Enzo helps Bayonetta with information that wasn't easy to come by. In the DMC Series, Dante's work as a supernatural bounty hunter was supplied by someone named "Enzo Ferino", Dante's information broker in the mercenary underworld, as well as a close friend. It was never said if the two characters were the same person, but a picture from the Bayonetta Art Book shows Enzo playing Strip Poker, and winning, against an unseen person. Seeing the two handguns, sword, and red coat on the side, it is implied that Enzo is playing with Dante, and that the Enzos from DMC AND Bayonetta are the same person. Source: http://bayonetta.wikia.com/wiki/Enzo http://devilmaycry.wikia.com/wiki/Enzo_Ferino Copied from the Wikia article: The "Bracelet of Time" is full of Devil May Cry references. When unlocked, it is first referred to as the "Bangle of Time", a similar item from the first game; it states it was created by Eva (Dante's mother) and given to a Legendary Dark Knight (Dante's father, Sparda), though in Bayonetta they are mentioned as a witch and her demon master, whereas in DMC, they are a human and demon who fell in love. It is also a reference to Viewtiful Joe (which Dante was also playable in) which he knows it as the V Watch, which was given to him by Captain Blue (his predecessor to the action hero role in that game), all three are names for an item that manipulates the flow of time. Bangle of Time from Devil May Cry: Bracelet of Time from Bayonetta: V Watch from Viewtiful Joe: Bayonetta's Accessory The Immortal Marionette is a reference to the Marionette enemies from Devil May Cry, but seeing as how the two games might occur within the same continuity, it may be an actual Marionette enemy turned into an accessory. Which is Joe's catchphrase. This is most likely due to the fact that most of the people who work for Platinum Games, were the same people who worked for Clover Studios (Developers of Okami, Viewtiful Joe, God Hand etc.) |
