Dreaded parts in games. - Granny Benson - 12-24-2012 02:45 PM

I'm not sure if this thread or something like it has been made before, but I didn't see it anywhere.

Anyway, everyone has those parts in a game that they just hate. Maybe it's the Water temple, or perhaps the Hazy Maze in Super Mario 64. Whatever it is, whether it's just one game in general or just a general hatred of a certain recurring element in games, post it here.

One of mine would probably be that boss in Megaman 2 in Dr Wily's 4th stage. It's an easy boss, but it requires so much crash bomb ammo that I usually have to die and refill on ammo just to beat it.

Also, tutorials suck.

For me it was the 3rd level in Star Wars Dark Forces 1 for Macintosh. That sewer level could go fuck itself.

Another part of a different game I dread is the microscope puzzle in the 7th Guest. The only puzzle that pits you up against the computer and damn it is hard!

Driving the Mako in Mass Effect 1 is up there for me. Water Temple still makes me uncomfortable altough I have no problem breezing through it anymore.

Probably the Fire Temple in 3D Dot Game Heroes. The constant switch puzzles are horrendous.

I dislike going through Victory Road in the first two Pokemon games and their remakes, mainly because I usually have only one overpowered Mon.

I dread the final boss fight in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. If you know what I'm talking about, you probably understand why I hate that last fight.

I've recently played Chrono Trigger (for the first time), and I gotta say I was not a fan of fighting Lavos. Trying to remember each boss he's mimicking, and each weakness those bosses have, was a bit annoying. I tend to forget the early parts of RPG's, and if I manage to breeze through a boss fight, which I did with most of the bosses in CT, than I forget those too.

Forsaken Fortress always puts me off my Wind Waker Playthroughs.

Any timed level in the Assassin's Creed games.

I love jumping around and playing the game - but my enjoyment level drops 100% when it's timed and I can't have fun lining everything up and doing things in my own time.

*Goes through multiple dungeons to collect items to be fused together to form this one big item you need to give to someone*
Someone: Thank You for that item, warrior. However, you must now speak with the 3-fuck it.
I believe it's called, obvious padding. Yes you Darksiders 2 and Skyward Sword. I love those two but I HATE obvious padding in games. It honestly kills the motivation to play at times.

This is really if you play fighting games; Marvel vs Capcom specifically. The dreaded part is getting stuck in a 40+ second combo. Characters like Dante, Vergil, Dr.Strange, Dr.Doom, Jill Valentine, Magneto... OK cool so you killed off my Wesker, but then I get caught in a (good) mixup and have go through the whole process again. I dread being caught in combos in that game.

This isn't necessarily bad, but I dread the ending of games I'm completely in love with. Games like Final Fantasy I WANT to play more and more. I want it to be much bigger than it already is and when I can tell the ending is near, ah man. Sad panda I am Sad

Lastly:
Swimming sections in games.....Need I say more?

Not a specific part, but any time there is a long load time.
I sit there, I see my reflection in the blackness of the screen and I think, "What am I doing with my life..."
And then the next level starts WOO!

Those are only as good as the swimming mechanics. If the mechanics are bad, the swimming sections will be bad.

I don't like it when you can't skip cutscenes. I mean, for the first playthrough it's alright and you shouldn't need to skip them, but if you play through it again, you don't really want to sit there and watch it all over and over.
