It's possible: when you reach a checkpoint in Sonic 2 and carrying at least 50 rings, you can enter the bonus stage and earn a Chaos Emerald. After leaving the bonus stage, all of the normal stage's ring respawn. So you only need the 3 checkpoints of act1 and the 4 from act 2 from Emerald Hill to change into Super Sonic and allready defeat Eggman in this form at his 1st appearence.

When you said Emerald Coast in the title, I got excited and thought you were referring to the first stage in Sonic Adventure.

I've noticed something, but it's not worth a new thread. So I put it here, hoping, that someone will find it.
I've just noticed, that the maracas, which Amy plays in the "Sonic Advance"-sound-test...
...are the same Amigo uses in "Samba de Amigo"
