Sega's sports-story - Ginkaze - 11-29-2012 07:20 AM On April 11, 1993, Sega was the 1st, and I think only mainsponsor of a F1-grand-prix, exclusively from the videogame-industry. The race was held in Donington Park - a course, that was only used for this one grand prix in 63 years of formula-1-history. Too bad, that Williams-Renault's cars couldn't win, because they were also sponsored by Sega. It was the 1st videogame-based sponsoring of a formula-1-racing-team. Sega of Europe also wasted the most of it's advertisement-budget for the Dreamcast for sponsoring european football-clubs like "Arsenal London". This contract ran untill 2002, one of the best phases of the club's history - too bad, that Sega stopped the support of the Dreamcast 2001. RE: Sega's sports-history - Ginkaze - 11-29-2012 08:46 AM I forgot something. This really classic "Game Room"-video will help me: In "F-1 World Grand Prix for Dreamcast" it's typical, that you see your car from the side during a pitstop. Go to 1:24 to see one of them. There is only one exception: Prost-GP-cars. When you go to 4:52, you will see, that the cam will show the pitstop from above. The reason for this was simple: Prost GP was sponsored by SCE in 1998 and had a big, fat "PlayStation"-writing on it's sides in a time, when Sony still was Sega's enemy. But if you watch a replay of a race, you can see the "PlayStation"-branding without any problem. (photo from the Prost GP from 1998) |
