Books - Beardy - 06-27-2012 03:01 AM Any suggestions for reading material? I'm currently reading Cryptonomicon for the second time, which I'd thoroughly recommend to anyone. RE: Books - Arjahn - 06-27-2012 03:56 AM Pick up some Stephen King, those are addicting. RE: Books - Jest3r - 06-27-2012 04:15 AM Stephen King is good, Dan Brown is not bad either My all-time favorite is Im Westen Nichts Neues by Erich Maria Remarque. But thats german RE: Books - Beardy - 06-27-2012 04:23 AM I've pretty much read most of Stephen King's books, they're good to just tear through. I can't stand Dan Brown though, I'm afraid. Can't read German myself, but I have read the translation, which is indeed ace. RE: Books - Xannidel - 06-27-2012 04:26 AM What genres do you look for? I normally read fantasy so anything like: The Legend of Drizzt by R A Salvatore The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher The Codex of Alera by Jim Butcher The song of Ice and Fire series RE: Books - Jest3r - 06-27-2012 04:26 AM (06-27-2012 04:23 AM)Beardy Wrote: I've pretty much read most of Stephen King's books, they're good to just tear through. Seems you got the good taste already, i wouldn't know what more to reccomend in that case. I know some Dutch books but i doubt there are translated versions. RE: Books - Beardy - 06-27-2012 04:35 AM I don't really have any solid preferences. I don't usually go for fantasy, but I'm willing to give it a go, so maybe I'll have a lookie at some of those suggested ones. Top 5 books, off the top of my head and in no particular order are: Catch 22 - Joseph Heller East of Eden - John Steinbeck A Wild Sheep Chase - Haruki Murakami Cat's Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut Money - Martin Amis RE: Books - Nuudoru - 06-27-2012 05:16 AM Kafka by the Shore, by Haruki Murakami. Actually, read anything that guy has written. He's REALLY good at writing surreal stuff. Fun fact: Haruki Murakami wrote a novel collection together with the guy who created the Mother series/Earthbound. RE: Books - Beardy - 06-27-2012 06:01 AM Yeah, I love Murakami, I've read all his books. Kafka on the Shore is amazing. Talking cats! RE: Books - Nicknclank - 06-27-2012 06:14 AM Reading material, eh? Well, have you read the incredibly funny series called "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" yet? If you didn't, then you should read it! If you already DID read it, read it again! RE: Books - Beardy - 06-27-2012 06:22 AM Yeah, I have. You read his Dirk Gently books too? Also ace. RE: Books - Ga2sert - 06-27-2012 07:16 AM Has anybody here read "The Man In The High Castle"? It's an amazing book. RE: Books - DiscoNinja - 06-27-2012 07:18 AM If you just want a quick, enjoyable read then any of the Discworld novels are a shout RE: Books - Beardy - 06-27-2012 07:38 AM Yeah, I've read and enjoyed the Discworld books. Not read that High Castle one though, maybe I'll give it a go. Anyone fancy posting me a copy for free? Ahem.
