It might sound weird but I've never really catched Articuno in the original Red & Blue.
It all seemed like the legendaries in the very first generations of Pokemon were harder to catch than the upcoming generations.
For instance, in black I caught Reshiram easily, while all the early generations legendaries seemed hard.

Reshiram and Zekrom have a slightly higher catch rate than other legendaries due to them being important to the story.
iirc you have to catch it too. I caught my Zekrom while it was in orange health with an Great Ball.

Most leg-ends have a catch rate of 3, or at least the good ones do.

I always thought Scyther, Chansey/Blissey would be cool in the early games, but then the only way to catch them was the Safari Zone and.... :|

That said, I'm usually pretty persistant when I want a Pokémon (For instance, I had a Tyranitar and Heracross on my Gen 2 team.)

I remember hearing about Munchlax from a friend back in the days of Leaf Green and that if you bred a level 100 snorlax holding a Lax index with a ditto then the egg would hatch a Munchlax....
I tried man, I fucking tried...

Or you tried doing your own stuff. Either way, it,s long and painful when you fail. Which reminds me when there was a text in braille that I had to read in Emerald. I just took a dictionary that had letters in braille (awesome luck, right?) Anyway, it turned out I just needed a Wailord and a Relicanth, which I had. My friends didn't know what the hell to do! And even thought I told them what to do, they didn't believe me!

And that's how I had Registeel before any of them :D (... he was tough to get thought. I caught him with a net ball; don't ask)

The Braille parts were easy, they would usually be 3 words, which would usually be a HM.

So 3 letters would be Fly or Cut
4 letters would be Surf or Dive
5 letters would be Flash
8 or 9 would be strength or waterfall

It was pretty simple for me when I was 7.

Did anyone else realise that there was a braille dictionary/translator in the manual that came with the game? I remeber sitting with my gameboy and the page, decoding the walls with a pencil and some paper. Good times.

Yeah. I remember looking in the back of the Emerald manual for the Braille translations.

Spent 3 hours trying to catch an Adamant Growlithe. OH MAN I GOT IT....but it has Flash Fire ability Sad Would prefer intimidate. But still worth using. It's called Leon Smile

Feebas. I've caught every single Pokémon I could in the games I own but this friggin' fish is so rare it's ridiculous.

RE: That Pokemon you always wanted, but could never catch. - Arjahn - 11-23-2012 03:46 PM

Well I grew up playing Leaf Green more than anything, and I always wanted an Arcanine. Problem was, the three friends of mine who had GBA Pokemon games had either Leaf Green, Ruby or Sapphire, and Growlithe is only catchable in FireRed..
But then, BUT THEN! I got a copy of FireRed for my birthday one year, and I caught the bastard. Then when I got to the Elite 4, my team was underleveled so my best friend let me borrow his Typhlosion he had been training for a long time. I went on vacation and beat the elite 4 with Arcanine, Typhlosion and my highly trained master chiefin' MLG PRO 360 NOSCOPIN LAPRAS.
Then I lost the game in a hotel in Minnesota.
Then I cried.
A lot.

Wanting to get that PERFECT Kyurem.

So many annoying RNG eff ups until. Bloody bullshi- of having the perfect IV's but wrong nature because FOR SOME RAISON it wouldn't use Umbreons Synchronise (I'm looking for a Modest Kyurem). Them, one day(Today)
I FINALLY got my RNG'd Kyurem....

For me growing up on Red and Blue, I always wanted a Chansey and Kangaskhan from the Safari Zone but wouldn't you believe it that every encounter with EITHER of them resulted in then running away before I could even throw one rock!?

After that I cared less about getter rare pokemon because the pokemon I found at a better catch/encounter rate did the job for beating the gym leaders and the elite 4.
