HD Collections - Xannidel - 08-07-2012 09:38 PM

So recently Sony announced that along with the Ratchet and Clank HD collection they were also releasing an Infamous collection, that has the first and second game and the DLC for Infamous 2, and also a God of War collection which has ALL 5 games. Also releasing this month I believe is the Journey collection which has Journey, Fl0w and Flower AND I also believe 30 days of PSN plus as well.

So the real point of this thread is that I am curious as to what you all think about the concept of HD collections or just collections in general. Do you think they are good or bad?

For me I can't think of many cons, they help people who can't afford all the games (like the God of War collection) so instead of buying all 5 God of War titles separately, they can buy them all at once in a collection. This is especially true for the PS2 title collections like Sly Cooper or Jak and Dexter where some gamers might have been too young to buy the games when they did get released.

The only con I find with them is that in the UK they're extremely difficult to find. I found The Sly Collection Randomly and had to borrow money off a friend to buy it. Also I saw the Jak and Daxter Collection when it came out went to get it and they sold out... they have never restocked. I'll have to go on the internet for it eventually... I think they're great.

I really would like a Halo HD Trilogy in about a few years time, but ooooh no, they had to amke a seperate game of a remastered Halo 1. Waste of money :/

Hmm I do not know of many XBOX exclusive collections, I see Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders and Dragon Ball Z Budokai are some of the few on Amazon that are for PS3 and 360 while Sly Cooper, ICO/Shadow of the Colossus, God of War are just some of the PS3 exclusive games so maybe Microsoft does not find making a collection for a game series as a good idea or maybe there is another reason that I just can't think of.

I love HD collections. I know that it's just whoever is selling trying to make more money off of games that whose time has already passed, but it's SO convenient. Because the PS3 can't play PS2 games, it allows me to play those games again...in HD. Also, now I can sell my old PS2 games, they may not be worth much, but it's something.

And one last thing...trophies.

RE: HD Collections - Xannidel - 08-08-2012 12:24 AM

This is very true, current gen PS3 do not allow PS2 compatibility so having these collections gives those a chance to play them, and I still think that these newer collections are a cheaper way for people to play them then buying them individually.

HD collections can be a very neat thing since a lot of older games looks like crap on modern TVs. But if they are going to make them they should include extra material if they're asking for full price (since the game was already made and they are several years old). They should also be better done than the Silent Hill one which had many graphical errors, some of which are so bad that they ruin the game experience. A friend told me that the SH HD collection lacked rust and mist in many parts of the game. Ugh.

Good point. I love HD collections:
God of War
Prince of Persia
Devil may Cry
Metal Gear Solid
Shadow of the Colossus/ICO
Tekken Hybrid
Resident Evil 4/Code Veronica X

Or stand alone last generation HD games:
Beyond Good and Evil
Okami
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike

Silent Hill was a terrible port. Changing the voices, changing the graphics, full of bugs and was pretty bad in general compared to the original. Should leave it untouched or add improvements.

I look at games like Okami on the Wii and it looks nice sure, but the Wii's lack of graphical power doesn't, but the re-release of Okami in HD does it justice for both us and the developers. Like Nuudoru said, I would like to see more in a (re-release)purchase. Tekken Hybrid comes with The original Tekken Tag but they didn't add online. Waste really.

Their excuse for that was that they were lacking much of the original SH2 code (maybe SH3 too?) but that is still inexcusable; if you are making a game HD collection or not, you better have ALL the code.

RE: HD Collections - retrolinkx - 08-08-2012 02:33 AM

>No Timesplitters HD

I think they're okay to be honest, they just give gamers who couldn't have the games before a chance to play them in HD, I got into Metal Gear Solid due to it's HD collection.

RE: HD Collections - Nicknclank - 08-08-2012 01:57 PM

Personally, I don't NEED the HD collections. Most of the HD packs includes games that I ALREADY HAVE on my PS2. So, unless I plan to play them again for the fact that I can win trophies, I don't think I need them.

Unless, of course, the HD pack has games I DON'T have, such as the Sly Cooper Collection. That would be fun to play :3

RE: HD Collections - elizasteave - 08-08-2012 07:12 PM

I haven't got any of the HD collections till now, but yes they have scope which is a fact. They allow people to play the same game and in a much better way. The thing is that its the same stuff with some added techniques and really gives pleasure while playing. One would not feel the wastage of money after buying them.

Quote:“We got all the source code that Konami had on file – which it turns out wasn’t the final release version of the games,” he said.

“So during debug we didn’t just have to deal with the expected ‘porting’ bugs, but also had to squash some bugs that the original team obviously removed prior to release, but we’d never seen before.”

I don't get why they didn't bug test it before release, or if they did, do a thorough job on it? Also doesn't explain why they had to re-do the voice acting.

Indeed true. Even if you already own them it's quite handy for PS3 users. I've bought all my HD collections for Xbox, but any PS3 exclusives are handy due to Sony not adding backwards compatability to their consoles (or make a complete eff up over which ones can play PS2 games or not). Even then, playing the classics again for trophies, leaderboards and HD visuals are a bonus.

RE: HD Collections - Mr.Katana - 08-09-2012 09:24 AM

I don't have any HD collections, but I might just do it because they bundle all the games. I'll probably get the God of War HD bundle because i've never played them.

Like with Nicknclank, I have most of the games (or the ones that look interesting) on the PS2, but really it doesn't matter too much to me if I get it or not. Definitely won't be a first priority, but would be nice to have in my collection.

RE: HD Collections - Beardy - 08-09-2012 09:41 AM

I remember playing RE4 having downloaded it from XBLA. Personally I think that if they want to update the graphics and release it for a new console, they need to take a look at the control scheme. The camera control and analog stick responsiveness just felt totally out of whack playing it on the Xbox. I couldn't get into it like I did before.
