So even if it will be hard, I vote we go with main protagonist and like 2 permanent side characters. Now, that doesn't mean we couldn't have a level specific character, like in Chrono Trigger, in the past, it's Frog, but in the future, it's the Robot. Ok, I get your point. Even though the side-character doesn't interact with the main one, it can still help (Space Shooter: Call in a spaceship friend for a few seconds. Monster Kill: Unleash a super attack with the side-character). But I still think we would need 1 main character. Also, this thread is getting way too long. Can't we just find a CHAT?! Well, I mean have the main character, and then two other ones that take the WHOLE journey with you. Not just small side kicks that come in for like ten seconds at a time. You can use them depending on the levels you have. Sounds cool ^_^ RE: Collaberate on a game? - Equinox - 07-05-2012 01:08 PM (07-05-2012 01:04 PM)Nicknclank Wrote:(07-05-2012 01:01 PM)Equinox Wrote:(07-05-2012 12:54 PM)Nicknclank Wrote:(07-05-2012 12:49 PM)Equinox Wrote: Well, for it to be a good game, we need to have a good story, and to have a good story, we need depth, to have depth, we need characters meaning more than one. Like in Kingdom Hearts, you have Donald and Goofy, in Chrono Trigger(This is becoming a fairly good reference point, we should make note of this.) you always have Marle and Lucca by your side. RE: Collaberate on a game? - damerdar - 07-05-2012 01:09 PM I'd prefer permanent buddies to a bunch of different ones, but having a temporary character per world (even just 1 per world to make it 4 characters total) would certainly help with storytelling within each world, since we can have a denizen of each world that knows what's going on. Getting a subforum would be nice, but I wouldn't count on it. Something to use as a chat would be nice. I wouldn't be opposed to using a skype group chat or google docs. Welp, I made a Docs thing, but I can't figure out how to use it... RE: Collaborate on a game? - Dark_Dimension - 07-05-2012 02:15 PM You guys can easily use skype, google docs, or even conference chat in IM programs such as Pidgin. Also, there is zero problem to adding posts to this thread. Once it hits post cap, feel free to make a second thread as a continuation of this one. I would highly suggest one of your more organized forum-mates compile what information you already have so that you won't need to scour this thread, or other threads, to find the info you require. In a game like this, it seems like it,s going to be tough having side-characters. I see... maybe we should get only one character and have something like Captain N where he goes around the world of the internet this time around and interacts with the things. I'd say that he could find another characters along the way that could aid him in the game because they would have different abilities. A really cool thing to do would be to only be able to choose one character at a time, making so that this way we plan our level design in a way that he needs to use another different character to find the optimal way to complete the level (we could also put a time counter in the level so there is something that is making him do the level again for a better performance) or we could even do something like he ahs to do the level again with other characters to find secrets. I like this idea. One thing to do would have the player be able to go through any of the levels with the characters available, but due to different abilities (like one might be able to swim while another can climb) they might have different paths that intersect at different points, as well as finding different secrets. So if the player wanted to find everything, they would have to go through each level with each character, but each run would be slightly different with each character. RE: Collaborate on a game? - DHXIII - 07-06-2012 02:21 AM I made a new more organised version of this thread: http://forums.didyouknowgaming.com/showthread.php?tid=527 RE: Collaberate on a game? - Sohakmet - 07-06-2012 02:24 AM (07-06-2012 02:15 AM)damerdar Wrote:(07-06-2012 01:48 AM)Sohakmet Wrote: A really cool thing to do would be to only be able to choose one character at a time, making so that this way we plan our level design in a way that he needs to use another different character to find the optimal way to complete the level (we could also put a time counter in the level so there is something that is making him do the level again for a better performance) or we could even do something like he ahs to do the level again with other characters to find secrets. Yeah, branching paths is another good idea to use with this concept. RE: Collaborate on a game? - Zaliphone - 07-12-2012 08:19 AM I had this really cool idea that I made up with a friend for a Pokemon ROM hack, so if anyone knows how to do that stuff, I would gladly share our idea with you. |
