I only download games when i buy them and they break on me RE: Do you pirate? - Skarro - 07-18-2012 12:01 AM Socialist-fag here. I pirate and have no issue with it. If you can afford to buy it and you want a cool physical copy, buy it. If your a single mother who is having a stressful day as always and don't feel like sacrificing your supper to watch the new spider-man, then download it. If your lucky enough to get a chance in the media business then you have more then 99% of us wish for and should stop being so greedy. If you made something so bad that only purchases to "see if it would be ok" kept you afloat then maybe you don't belong in that business anyway. I personally purchase things I love. Single player games (easy to steal) I have purchased last year include WindWaker and Skyrim. I also spent $160 on all of the marvel movies in 1 pack. Despite owning and downloading some already. Edit: Also things seem to naturally work out. In music for example, I was a merch guy for a local band and seen ALOT of amateur bands hoping to make it pro. And one thing I noticed is if a band isn't able to live off of there music, then they aren't popular enough for you to find downloads of it. Some bands who were easily clearing minimum wage I never found downloads for. RE: Do you pirate? - Mr.Holmes - 07-18-2012 10:12 PM When you don't have a job or are unable to get money in any sort of form, getting things for free looks so tempting. I also don't feel that bad for the creators since like idk 80% of the general population actually buys the vidya game. I have also been known to steal some things from time to time, so whenever something presents itself without any consequences behind it, I'm gonna go for it. RE: Do you pirate? - Zaliphone - 07-21-2012 05:45 AM I still don't understand the mentality behind the whole "I hate that company, I'll steal the game I don't want just because I can" What you're showing to that company you hate is that you want the game, that one extra download shows that one more person wants to own the game. It won't show that you hate them and their business practices, if that's the case just write a strongly written email and be happy with that. I've also decided that BumblebeeCody is one of the smartest and most logical people on this forum. RE: Do you pirate? - Tonus - 07-21-2012 07:51 AM old console's roms, maybe games for my PS2/GC that never got released in UK but new tuff that comes out may as well buy it, if we didnt they'd stop making them RE: Do you pirate? - philliphourglass - 07-21-2012 08:46 AM Only music that I wouldn't be buying anyway. Mostly out of sheer convenience. If I can stream an album for free, why not download it so I don't bog down my browsing? I realize that it isn't really the most moral thing, but the vast majority of the money that the music industry takes in is from concerts and merchandise. I figure that since it is music that I don't have to risk wasting money on, I can see what artists I really like and am more apt to see them live (which I have). This video is pretty great, funny, and relevant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZadCj8O1-0 RE: Do you pirate? - Sohakmet - 07-22-2012 02:40 PM You know what? I hate my country regarding this. I already said my reasons as to why I pirate, but you need to see the numbers. After really seeing how it's like and what you really get from the government, it's needless to say that I just give up trying to buy anything ever again. This is an image telling the price difference between the US and Brazilian market regarding the products mentioned. That also applies to the games, eletronics in general, anyways, basically everything. That saddens me, it really does. I need to tell you that as much as people say that Brazil has been growing as a country I say that it really doesn't matter when the governement just treats us like pure trash and makes us have one of the most expensive life costs in the world with a really low minimum wage. It's like trying to make a hobo buy their own house. It's like if we're always buying diamonds all the time, except that they're not forever, and neither my patience is. I wanted to but a WiiU, I really did, but it seems like I won't be able, unless of course if I want it to accumulate dust, becausue it's more than obvious that it's games will have outrageous prices. I give up. I can't win this. I'll just get depressed for the rest of my life now, or until I move from this shithole called Brazil. BTW, world cup 2014 and olympics 2016 will be a complete garbage, trust me. Proud of being brazillian... That chart is ridicules everything is over twice of what it costs here that's just not right to make someone pay that much for things regardless whether it be essential or not. I think that it's one of the main factors that makes out economy grow so slowly. The prices are so outrageous that it just scares people away from buying those, or even, importing illegally. The worse thing is that it's never a good deal to buy those things because you'll always end up losing. With the actual taxes and currency exchanges, you have to pay up to almost 4 times the price of the product for its counterpart on the US market. It's needless to say, too, that the minimus wage here is of R$600 (approx. $300) I don't know you, but would you really be able to live with only $300 per month even with the market in the US being more available? The govern here is just so filled with stupid people that it really makes me go there and kill every single one that is inside that place for the amount of corruption and stupidity they produce for us. The economy doesn't grow and investments don't occur in a pace that it owuld be much better than it is now. They keep saying "don't pirate", but it's hard not to do so when they just won't lower the prices of the original products. It's just a huge mess made with the most stupid people you could find walking in the face of earth that just have no idea how that would be better for all of us. RE: Do you pirate? - Alex - 07-24-2012 07:37 AM music - always. goes without saying. movies/tv - most of the time. a lot of stuff i want to watch (like community or parks&rec) isn't on tv here, and dvds and are ludicrously overpriced (or not even released at all). ditto the cinema re: price. games - rarely if ever nowadays, actually. except for roms and stuff from old gba games. RE: Do you pirate? - A Zombie Riot - 07-24-2012 08:48 AM I do. Usually it's albums, because I've been disappointed too many times with purchases. If I think it would be a bad purchase, I'll just download it. Take example of Serj Tankian's 2 recent solo albums. I bought his first one, and downloaded his next 2. His 2nd solo album (I forget the title), was alright but not worthy of a purchase, IMO. So, with Harakiri, I was hesitant, especially with Figure It Out as the first song I heard. I thought it had unnecessary swearing, like "**** Gotta figure it out." over and over again. So annoying. But once I listened to it in its entirety, I enjoyed it. There are albums from bands that I KNOW I will love regardless, so those get a purchase automatically. Now onto TV Shows. Lately, it's been a season that's recently just been done on TV and I either re-watched or watched the show for the first time. Like Breaking Bad. Seasons 1-3 were on Netflix at the time, so I downloaded Season 4 to watch that. Or unless there's a show that I absolutely have to watch and it's not on Netflix, I download it. The ONLY time I've done this was with Samuari Jack. RE: Do you pirate? - Skarro - 08-15-2012 08:47 AM RE: Do you pirate? - agentkuo - 08-15-2012 10:51 AM to OP: Yes, well, I torrent. Movies and music. I don't torrent movies that are currently playing in theaters (mainly just because quality is compromised too much). I look at similarly to going to the library. RE: Do you pirate? - zinja - 08-16-2012 01:25 PM I hardly pirate, but I don't know why, maybe really far in the future, I might. For several reasons: 1. Possible 3D printers- I need a new chair, I go online to print it, but it costs to much. Oh nos. I have an idea! 2. Downloading Food - who cares what the food well be like, if your hungry, you'll do anything. 3. Advanced media- Hopefully things well be better than. I don't know what I'll do. Just a question, can't you just wait till things you want now are old and can't be profited from? If you really want it, you can wait, right? |
