RE: Graphics vs Gameplay vs Story - Zaliphone - 11-07-2012 11:15 AM Like Cody said, price has no correlation to quality. Although, Nintendo games generally are cheaper. Not by much though, I know that for Black Ops at least it was $50 for Wii and $60 for everything else. Not a big deal, even though it is a difference. A lot of Wii games are mostly just flick-your-wrist games (Super Mario Galaxy), but there are things like Skyward Sword. RE: Graphics vs Gameplay vs Story - cingchris - 11-07-2012 01:26 PM I play for gameplay, when I'm playing a game for the story it's always a story driven game, which means the story itself is the gameplay. (or at least what the game is centered around.) I find the graphics of the game can look like complete crap and still have an amazing game, hell just look at all those older games that are still amazing by today's standards, and the opposite can also be true, and all to often is these days. You know you sound like one of the reviewers in Game spot. They purposefully gave a low rating to the game unlike the others where they gave it the highest rated game ever. The thing is it depends on what game designers want their game to be. If for instance Cave Story( Love that game xD ) was made as a retro game, then the game had to use 16-bit art to show it. RE: Graphics vs Gameplay vs Story - Snake3324 - 11-08-2012 01:04 AM If a a type of game (Let's say FPS) can have really good story, even though the genre is stereotyped for just running around, gun in hand, holding down the R1, I'll be interested. The best example of this would be the Bioshock series and Dishonored. Wow. Both of them were great, and hell even for FPS, Dishonored was fucking amazing (I guess it could be argued that Dishonored IS a FPS.) While story DOES help me make a decision, if I'm really enjoying the game I don't seem to mind. Let's use Kingdom Hearts as an example. I remember I was in the middle of the Oogie Boogie fight in KH2 when my friend came over. I will say, it was pretty fun boss. Switching from conveyer belts to other conveyer belts, why Oogie does attacks depending on what numbers he rolls, then allowing you to attack the dice and try and change the attack. Yea, it was really fun. Then the after cut scene. HEARTS DARKNESS HEARTS HEARTS DARKNESS LIGHT HEARTLESS NOBODIES *SURPRISE ORG XIII MEMBER* DARK, DARKER, DARKEST.... Yea... I could probably do one for graphics (I am a sucker for chel shade games like Sly Cooper, and Okami Which could be argued as cel shade)) such as how the Journey demo REALLY wants me to buy the game. Yes the gameplay is fucking awesome, and that's the huge reason, but hnnnnng the sand it's soooooo well done. Not to mention the environment is just amazing. That's all I got so far on this subject. But if you find a 7.5 for a game a LOW SCORE then you really have a bad perspective on what a bad/good game is and isn't.(11-07-2012 04:50 AM)BumblebeeCody Wrote: [quote='Artwark' pid='23338' dateline='1352216089'] Scott Pilgrim was also made to look retro yet used 32 bit. But still I found the controls decent. RE: Graphics vs Gameplay vs Story - Earthboundy - 11-08-2012 08:30 AM I really think this depends on game. For example I am willing to accept broken gameplay if the story is phenomenal, and the same goes for a dumb story, as long as the story isn't shoved up my ass. RE: Graphics vs Gameplay vs Story - Artwark - 11-09-2012 07:46 PM I wonder what is in the case for Pokemon? Gameplay and story are always the same ( Except for Black and White) So how come it still comes out well? I guess its maybe because of the mechanics and the new pokemon. RE: Graphics vs Gameplay vs Story - Skarro - 11-10-2012 01:34 PM Gameplay>Story>Graphics Bad controls alone can ruin a game with an amazing story. (DS Zeldas for me) The only game I pushed through for story was Bioshock (and I am glad I did) I found it's gameplay very clunky and boring, still one of the best games ever though. |
