Not to start a flame war or something, but in the last few years western RPG have become way better than the traditional never-changing Japanese RPGs. Japanese RPGs still can be great, but since they're still the same for years, they became, I don't know, too "old-fashioned". Gaming industry is a ever changing one, and resistence to change is bad for business. No surprise Japanese companies aren't launching good RPGs outside Japan anymore.
But it's just a thought I'd like to share. If this post has gone too off-topic, disregard it.

1. Suikoden II - I really think this is underrated
2. Final Fantasy VI - Best FInal Fantasy for me :-bd (Just my opinion doods)
3. Final Fantasy VII - Now this is kinda overrated =))
4. Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 - Most controversial yet I enjoyed them a lot
5. Disgaea 2 - Awesome stuff but grind heavy =))

Any normal Pokemon game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Oblivion. Also, the Mario RPGs are freaking awesome IMO.

i really liked FFIX, i think i liked fallout 3...i played it for long enough but at points i wasnt sure if i was enjoying mysef when i started decorating my house...

I actually enjoyed Xenosaga for the PS2 now that I remember.
