That was kind of my point to start with.

Yeah. RE4 left far more of impact on me than Tetris DS did. Also the fact doesn't RE4 did leave an impact on me doesn't mean it's 10/10 game. Because it would be perfect, but it's not.

So what is a 10/10 game? Y'know, forgetting ALL personal feelings?

Alright because I feel this is just gonna go on and on I will just point you to my previous post on this (because I feel it was ignored) that is what he means in this thread of 10/10 games that are flawed. If I am wrong Beardy feel free to correct me.

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. One of the best fighting games ever created(if not the best). Yet the balancing issue with characters like Sean and Q are pretty bad. 100% Stun-kill combos and more

Resident Evil 4. One of the greatest games ever made. Is a tad linear with 0 puzzle elements.

To give a game 10/10 you have to brutally honest with yourself. This game maybe incredible and perfection of that genre, but if you think logically about the game and don't "fanboy/girl" up yourself you can see what the true issues with the game are without crapping on it. You mentioned Skryim being perfect but can somehow swat off the glitches and combat. Bethesdas QA team are wank to be honest. It seems to the norm to release a game and expect glitches. If spinning heads and falling through the map was on a Zelda game....there'd be murder. You have to be fair really.

I also view games with a critical eye but to say something is a 10 out of 10 is to say you love it and forgive it's flaws. No game will be perfect man, because we aren't perfect, so by all standards there will never be a true 10 out of 10 game you just have to take it for what it is.

There isn't. It's what I've been saying. You can't ever have a 10/10 game. You title says it all, a 10/10 game that's flawed. RE4 amazing. But has flaws, therefore cannot obtain a perfect score of 10/10. See?

So there is no such thing as a 10/10 game?

Well most major reviewers keep giving COD amazing marks and... Well... I don't really need to say anything about that, do I?
Aside from that, Mass Effect is sort of a mess, and I never fell in love with Borderlands. All in my opinion of course.

I think I have to come clean here. Call of Duty games make me hungry. COD!

I think the point the OP is trying to make is that what game would you play over and over and over again considering the flaws of said game? What game would be good enough to warrant constant replaying even though there are glaring issues that you would like to see resolved?

An example is Devil May Cry 4. Yeah, the backtracking level design reeks of either deadline desperation or just laziness, but I would play it over and over again to figure out ways to stylishly dispose of my adversaries or not be touched by a boss. The same could be said for Ninja Gaiden II, personally.

If there's any more inane discussion about what is and is not a 10/10 game, I'm going to start deleting posts because they will not be contributing to this thread. I'd love to add my opinion on the matter but then I'd have to delete myself.

I'm not reading this entire thread, so if this has been stated before, my apologies.

10/10's exist because it says that a game is about as close to perfect as you're going to get. Because no single game is ever perfect.

RE: 10/10 games that are flawed - DHXIII - 07-05-2012 06:23 PM

I don't often give 10/10's but Losy Odyssey is sooooo deserving however I can see that it is flawed in the sense that the loading times can be long before battles.

I also consider Bioshock 10/10 but think it's a bit too short, I think never-ending would be the only acceptable length for it Big Grin

As for retro games Sonic 3 and Knuckles is perfect but no notable flaws same with Yoshi's Island.
I could go more obscure and mention Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining the Holy Ark... But let's leave that Smile

Gotta say, I don't mind the discussion on what makes a 10/10 game. It doesn't seem too far off topic, after all.

Nope

So many people have said "This is perfect but there's the odd [insert issue]

You could essentially say. Superman64 is perfect 10/10 but here are some issues with it.

But you have to remember that no game is perfect. Ever.

That is unfair to say, just because you find that no game is perfect does not mean that everyone thinks the same way. One person who loves sports games could say the latest FIFA game was 10/10 while another person who has never seen soccer nor played any kind of a sports game before could be confused by the game and rate it a 6/10 or lower even. It is all opinionated which I think is the OP's intent on the thread.

Skyward Sword could have been a 10/10 for me, if not for the music. It's a shame such an epic game had such forgettable music :/

Also, Spider-man, Shattered Dimensions. Too short!
