(Also it took me way too long to figure out what you meant by "EFFEFF: VEEEYEYE", lawdaym) RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Psychospacecow - 01-29-2013 12:01 PM (01-29-2013 11:40 AM)BumblebeeCody Wrote:(01-29-2013 10:24 AM)Arjahn Wrote: And as for the Mario Bros. RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - cingchris - 01-29-2013 12:52 PM The Hitman movie was just saddening to me because I love that series and the movie just completely disregards all the lore and story of Hitman, and then doesn't even replace it with a another good story, it is a very vague story with tons of action sequences, great if you just wanna see people shoot people, terrible if you actually want a good movie. That was such a nice movie and well worth it because I found it in a bargain bin in a Walmart. SCORE! Wait, there's a localized Professor Layton movie? I remember watching a PL movie in Japanese, but I didn't know they localize it. I kinda want to watch it, I'm sure there would be some great riffing fun to be had. It looks gorgeous and the action scenes are enjoyable as hell. But the story and the characters ughhh. Grade-A weaboo fest. Cloud is a huge emotional douche. RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Mass Distraction - 01-30-2013 02:26 AM Huh. I actually liked Advent Children. And Spirits Within, for that matter. Yes, I do play FF games. Have all of them from I to VII. A couple of other movies I didn't mention but enjoyed a lot: Hitman, Max Payne, Forbidden and all the Mortal Kombat movies. I also liked Zombrex: Dead Rising Sun, though I had to watch it dubbed because I couldn't find subtitles for it. The dubbing was just awful. Like, the original RE bad. As far as animated movies go, the only ones I've only been so and so with are the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters movies, though they were still decent fun to watch. I also stopped liking everything animation related about Pokémon after the third movie and Mewtwo Strikes Back. 4Ever was just... lame. I still need to watch live action movies like KoF, HotD and both the SF ones. Those are gonna be sooooo fun... Okay, now to the bad ones that I've actually seen. Let's start off with Tekken. Now that that's out of the way, to the next one, which is Dead or Alive. My GOD was that movie bad. I watched it with a friend and when the credits started rolling we just sat there for a while, looked at each other and agreed never to watch that again. If I had had it on a disc that I had actually paid for, the best I would have gotten out of my money would have been destroying that infernal movie. How satisfying would that have been... In any case, let's get to the bottom of the barrel. The Resident Evil movies. Now, I'm not complaining because I'm a fan of the actual series. I'm complaining because the movies have just gone from bad to worse. Okay, so I liked the first movie. I really did, and I was excited to see the sequel, Apocalypse, becuase I did (and still do) find the first movie good. That one was... It was okay, it was decent, though it got a bunch of the characters wrong and Alice was going crazy mary-sue all over the place. In any case, it was still watchable. Then we got Extinction. That is clearly where Anderson dropped the ball for good, not only ruining my favorite character (Carlos) but just making the plot insanely stupid with superpowers and shit. Next came Afterlife and that movie was just horrifyingly bad. So bad that I'd rather have spikes stuck under my nails than watch it again. I'm not saying it's a bad RE movie, I'm saying it's a bad movie and everyone taking part of making it should feel bad and have their kneecaps blown off. The CG was worse than anything on an Atari 2600, the plot made no sense, they introduced characters nobody cares about and the zombies are now majini for no reason. Retribution was better but by no means was it perfect. It was mostly boring and the plot still makes no sense. I'll stop now before this wall of text consumes the galaxy. Honestly, I think it would have done better if they didn't decide to slap the Final Fantasy tag on it, since it has nothing to do with any of the games. The only connection it has (if you can call it a connection) is a scientist named Cid. That's the only Final Fantasy element in the movie. I liked the small things, like Cid, but to me it's just a futuristic and more modern Final Fantasy. RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - BumblebeeCody - 01-31-2013 02:07 AM (01-30-2013 08:36 PM)Mass Distraction Wrote:To be honest, Final Fantasy always had a blend of futuristic society/setting. The opening for 13 alone shows the difference of Grand Pulse (untouched nature) with the society of Eden which use monorail type rails with large machinery and heck, one of the first enemies you come across is a Warmech machine. Same with 7 and the Shinra corporation and the technology there.(01-30-2013 12:00 PM)Ouberry_13 Wrote:(01-30-2013 02:26 AM)Mass Distraction Wrote: Spirits Within It sucks that Spirits Within failed because it looked amazing, but just wasn't that interesting and the obvious, far from source material problem that the RE films have. Some amazing feats in that film though. They individually animated hairs on characters head....and then sunk all of Sqaures film department. D: Even if you look at the film away from the series, you then begin to realise how bad and a mess Squares writing is. When you take away gameplay from a Square game and leave in all the crap story that's ...just crap, then you're left to watch it. With the games, the gameplay is what generally keeps it going. As for KoF. You will laugh at that film dude. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAWhat a craptacular film SO STUPID! Another crap film The Legend of Chun-li. WOW that's a stinker! But!? Now a good film would be Street Fighter 2 The Chun-li/Vega fight is awesome! And the classic "so bad it's good" Street Fighter The Movie RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Mass Distraction - 01-31-2013 02:46 AM The difference between Spirits Within straying from the source material and the RE movies straying from the source material is that they didn't use any known characters and overshadow them with a completely original character whose sole reason for being in the movies is that she's banging the director. Spirits Within actually used to be one of my favorite movies as a kid. I recently found it on DVD and bought it for good times' sake. The KoF movie can't possibly be as ridiculous as the Tekken movie. Can it..? At least with Tekken they tried with the costumes. But that's it! That film is effing terrible still but the costumes are good. KoF is Legend of Chun-li bad. It's too stupid. Yeah that's a point. But again, how is it related to the original games then? It's what's confusing. But even then, completely ignore the fact it's related to the FF series and it's still pretty bad. It's not interesting to watch but did have potential to be good even outside of being related to Final Fantasy. At least they were trying with that film. For Advent Children....ughhh damn. RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Mass Distraction - 01-31-2013 03:32 AM Eh, I still like both. I have a soft spot for CG VG movies. I appreciate what goes into making those films. But films really need to get the target audience invested in what the story(if any)is. Compared to the gaming medium, the story can be absolute wank (FFXIII) but it's the gameplay that keeps up invested in this product. Or if the visuals are below average (Deadly Premonition) the story keeps us going. If the film has amazing visuals but a crap story, it's pretty much just eye candy and good to look at. Films don't have anything to go on. So I do love CG type films too, but they still don't get a pass on FF: ACs insanely poor story(if there was one). my biggest issue with FF: AC was how much they ruined the characters. Tifa, Yuffie, Barret had a lot to their character whereas Cloud was a perfect example of a weaboo-type emo who needed a kick in the arse. In FFVIII he was interesting. He dressed up like a female to infiltrate a "massage" room to save Tifa. In AC they took any personality from him and made him into a crap character. Square have a tendency to make uninteresting (yet emotionally overdeveloped) characters like Lightning/Cloud/Vincent Valentine. Then Kadaj BURSTS into Sephiroths form(WTF!?) talk about major fan service. RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Mass Distraction - 01-31-2013 05:56 AM I found him to be as emo in the game itself as he was in the movie. No amount of cross-dressing can help that. It didn't help Alfred and it doesn't help Cloud I still like him, though, and he's still one of my favorite video game characters. What Cloud has going on for him is that he is propably the most badass emo character in gaming. Well, was before we saw the teen Dante. Zack did steal some of his shine in Crisis Core. But that's not even possible for him to be emo in the game since Aeriths death doesn't effect him until the third disc and even then it hasn't quite sunk in. He couldn't have been emo in FFVII since Aerith was alive and even then, had a goal of finding Sephiroth. In the film he was insanely emo about the loss of Zach and Aerith.....which is why he's annoying that film. |
