RE: Trying to get into Anime, any reccomendations? - Xannidel - 01-22-2013 01:24 PM Well here is an anime that I just started watching: "Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai" It is around 10 to 11 episodes long so it's a short anime and it seems to be more drama-esque but from what I can tell romance is not the key goal of the anime. Well I am sure you can look it up and see for yourself, I am only on episode 3 and it's not too bad if you keep your mind open. RE: Trying to get into Anime, any reccomendations? - Mass Distraction - 01-23-2013 12:08 AM Oh, but there's still at least a few animes that don't have a translated title. I just find it funny how obscenely long some of those titles are. Oh yeah, and I also dislike misleading titles. The worst offender at this that I have seen thus far has been the Scandinavian cover of Hulk vs. For some reason that movie is called "Wolverine" around here. Yes, while Wolverine indeed is in the movie, he only appears during the first 30 minutes and isn't even the one who ends up beating Hulk. RE: Trying to get into Anime, any reccomendations? - Arjahn - 01-23-2013 02:04 PM Well now whenever I get some damn free time I have a few dozen animes to watch, thanks for all of the suggestions ^_^ Now I just have to finish exams this week, and work all weekend, then have school all next week... 11 DAYS 'TILL ANIME MARATHON NIGHT OF THE FIRST DAY RE: Trying to get into Anime, any reccomendations? - Psychospacecow - 01-23-2013 03:12 PM (01-23-2013 02:04 PM)Arjahn Wrote: Well now whenever I get some damn free time I have a few dozen animes to watch, thanks for all of the suggestions ^_^ No problem (from me at least, can't speak for all) and enjoy the show run. RE: Trying to get into Anime, any reccomendations? - Xannidel - 01-23-2013 03:35 PM So I finished Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai just now and yeah I guess it could be considered sad if you get REALLY attached to the 11 episode anime but they sort of threw in some obvious loopholes at the end to sort of justify a reason to end the anime off...I think at least? I dunno but if you guys like drama animes then that is a good one to watch if you have time to kill. Also the intro to the anime has got to be one of the more calming intros I have ever heard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyE9cLpt0oM Sadly I could not get the shorter version so here is the full song. RE: Trying to get into Anime, any reccomendations? - Ga2sert - 02-16-2013 09:20 AM You should try Neon Genesis Evangelion, it's great! It's also considered by many people the anime that "changed everything". At least, they say that before Evangelion, anime was just for kids. I don't know if it really was the first one with a deeper plot, but it's really good. Hayao Miyazaki's movies are also awesome! Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Ponyo, Porco Rosso etc etc. Anything made by Miyazaki is excellent. I think even the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion even stated that the plot(lack of) was complete BS and that's it's far from deep. As for me, I'm one of those self righteous dickheads who hates modern anime. Nah, I just have no interest in the latest Animes like Code Geass or Soul Eater. I've seen a few episodes but that kind stuff just isn't what I like about anime(don't like the designs, the story, the generic dialogue, the bland action scenes) but they have their respected audience so...eh. Seems like the ladies on here know a lot about the modern Animes. Naruto is effin' terrible though, no holds barred on that crap. I think some Animes like Death Note are a master piece. The idea of a Death Note with the the characters who have on and the lore is just amazing. Original and really had my by the balls. Some other modern Animes like Afro Samurai is really for the mature audience but it's mature in a good way. There's violence and adult themes but handled with a level of maturity that doesn't make it seem like it's trying to be cool. For old Animes, then I'm in on that stuff. Outlaw Star is a great hidden gem of the old generation. Also, what's with High School of the Dead and boobs? Funny thing I haven't even watched that anime, and I don't plan to, because my brother watched it and said it was just terrible after a while and took every chance it had to just throw something sexual in there. I'm gonna take his word for it and just not watch it. On a different note, as for good newer animes, I guess this is a suggestion to both you and Arjahn, watch Canaan. At first it'll seem kinda dumb and just focused on action scenes, but the story gets pretty deep if you keep watching, I'd say it's definitely worth it, only 13 episodes too, short and sweet, if you got Netflix it's on there. RE: Trying to get into Anime, any reccomendations? - Arjahn - 02-16-2013 01:11 PM Well I finished Sword Art Online the other day, I really enjoyed it for the most part, didn't care too much for the nose dive it takes in season 2, but it was still really good. I also finnaly got around to watching BBC's Sherlock for no reason, also really good. Thanks for everything again ^_^ |
