I agree. But Nintendo add little gameplay elements which apparently means new IP. Super Mario BUT(!) you can collect coins by the truck load. I would think Nintendo left new IPs that to 3rd party developers. 3rd party developers didn't really support the Wii due to the fanbase. Games like Mad World and House of the Dead: Overkill caused SEGA to say (on the lines of) they won't be supporting the Wii with exclusive titles anymore. Games like No More Heroes get ported to Xbox 360 and PS3 or games like Xenoblade have issues being released in other regions. Last new IP I can remember from Nintendo was Eternal Darkness and Geist on the Gamecube. Did they even make one for the Wii? RE: Mario and Nintendo - Artwark - 10-25-2012 01:02 AM I know the thread was closed but what does nanomachines have to do with nintendo putting an italian plumber as their mascot? Please do not use my thread as a reason to repost your thread, thank you. RE: Mario and Nintendo - Artwark - 10-25-2012 05:59 AM Why what's wrong with that? Also Why are you guys wanting something new in Mario. There are lots of new things that mario showed us. And that he's the only one to have appeared in all the video game genre as far as I can tell. Isn't that new? Something that others aren't able to do? RE: Mario and Nintendo - BumblebeeCody - 10-25-2012 08:41 AM (10-25-2012 05:59 AM)Artwark Wrote: Why what's wrong with that? Because we're not 5 anymore and understand what you can't live off the same formula for 25 years. Also, I haven't seen a Mario TPS, FPS, RTS, Rail Shooter, Sh'ump, Traditional fighter, Racing simulation, hack n slash, survival horror, sandbox RPGs, tower defence, graphic novel just to name a few genres. Many mario games have a different graphic style and he mostly appears differently at times. Sure the voice may be I was talking about the New Super Mario Bros. series, not every Mario game. Well for TPS there's Super Mario Sunshine except that you have a gadget named F.L.U.D.D which cleans stuff instead of shooting. Also even franchises like Legend of Zelda don't fall under the most genres you've mentioned. And what about Donkey Kong? Mario actually helped these franchises to be made as well as several others like Castlevania. Just because you're not 5 doesn't mean that mario isn't meant for you anymore. The series are more of casual and are mostly easy to play. Think about people who don't play a lot of hardcore games. They play Mario because of it being casual and that they don't need to play like 2 hrs just to complete one level. Honestly I think Nintendo needs some appreciation here. And even though Nintendo never tries to change much of Mario, they manage to make the series awesome. I'll never forget Paper Mario: The thousand year door. That's like calling Portal an FPS because you shoot portals, but aren't actually killing people with those portals. Oh wait, there are people out there who do call Portal an FPS. SMS isn't an TPS. Having a mechanic that's a shooter, doesn't make the game a shooter. You missed my points. You made a claim about Mario appearing in all the video game genres, but I listed genres that he hasn't. Also the point about being 5 is to do with maturity but how we grow up and become...smarter about we do. To expand and explain on what I said before. Back when you were 5 you could play as much Mario as you want as long as Nintendo kept releasing them. You don't really care about reusing formulas then at that age, but when you get to your adult years you realise it hasn't really changed. Not about being too old to play Mario. Nintendo have a lot of appreciation but they are guilty of milking Mario and not really changing anything. We can bash other games outside of Nintendo for doing just that but Nintendo get a free pass? @A Zombie Riot Agreed about Mario Sunshine, but I would call Portal an FPS. It's a First Person perspective in which you shoot portals with a portal gun. It's not your conventional shooter but still falls into that genre. Also killing people wouldn't mean it's not an FPS since you do "kill" turrets. RE: Mario and Nintendo - Arjahn - 10-25-2012 11:23 PM I just want to see them make Super Mario World 3, or 2 if Yoshi's Island doesn't count. Not "NEW Super Mario World", nothing like that crap. Just a new, classic style 2D Mario Platformer. Think of how awesome they could make it nowadays, it could be Huge, more secrets and areas and everything. Plus it would bring back the sense of difficulty that's been lost in the series, namely harder levels and less than 5,000 lives and automatic-win flowers. This is why I just play Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. They never get old, never fail to deliver, and most importantly...they are a blast to play! RE: Mario and Nintendo - Xannidel - 10-26-2012 12:36 AM I must admit that I have not played SMW or SMB3 in a very long time so I would probably die alot. That makes me want to play them again. RE: Mario and Nintendo - A Zombie Riot - 10-26-2012 03:04 AM But it's not an FPS, Cody. It's a puzzle game that has FPS elements in it. RE: Mario and Nintendo - Beware of Cuccos - 10-27-2012 12:12 AM I both agree and disagree. I feel that while the Mario games are getting pretty easy, they are still just flat out fun to play. I believe the Mario franchise is there to be a fun game, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just like the Zelda franchise is there to be a story telling, puzzle solving game. I like that games have different difficulty levels. To me, it doesn't matter how hard it is as long as I have a good time playing. And it doesn't really bother me that they're milking it for all it's worth. All that means is I get to see more of some of my favorite video game characters. |
