There's a big "shitstorm" with Terminal Reality and Ghostbusters with glitched achievements (3 years on it still hasn't been patched). This is well known that Microsoft charge for patches. RE: Wii-U - Zaliphone - 11-12-2012 11:19 AM Well...that's really shitty. I knew Microsoft was into dick moves, but damn. That really sucks for developers. A big part of your Xbox Live Gold membership covers the overhead for game patches, updates, DLC and good technical support. If the service is free, with no one covering the cost of overheads, it won't be the best. Nintendo isn't going to eat the cost of keeping the service up to the standards of Xbox Live. Hell, Sony won't even do it, so why would Nintendo? I generally find that admitting paying for service is that it must be good. When really it's not. There isn't anything that Microsoft do; that warrants paying for the service, that the others don't. Patches, DLC (often PAID timed DLC between Microsoft (Capcom games especially)) . Also DLC is generally overpriced. If you look at Microsoft through the years (Gears of War) DLC has been increasing. Gears 1 had a few maps for a cheap price(400) and some for free. Gears 2 had maps pack (of 3 only) for 800M$+ points Gears 3 had 2400+ MS points worth of DLC on day 1 Same with Call of Duty Cod 2: Maps were 200 M$+ points Cod 4: Maps are 800 M$ points Cod whatever it is now: 1200... Also Microsoft forcefully tell Value to charge for the DLC campaigns. They are free on PC and they want them to be free on Xbox but Microsoft won't allow that (Which is why they had an odd price of 560). Xbox LIVE is nothing special and others nothing that the others don't. Also, it's a peer-to-peer network. Lazy lazy.... Nintendo and PS3 offer Netflix as a free download app for Wii/PS3 owners whereas Microsoft restrict you to Gold Membership only. Also, you Gold membership doesn't pay for technical support and isn't factored into whether gold is good. It's legal standard that technical support is good (and the few times I've had a problem with my Gamertag, Microsoft have been great and easy to work with). Nintendo and Sony also have a great technical support...but their service is free. I personally find Sony thought about gamers first. The whole point of a games console is that you play games. Playing DVDs, Music, Apps, Web browsing means nothing to me because I care about playing games only. If you don't have gold you can play games (awesome) but then you're paying for crap you don't want. Sony offer their online service for free but the option to upgrade to gain all the extra crap. Gaming is a priority with their service. Nintendo have nothing but to offer a gaming online service. No apps or other nonsense. RE: Wii-U - Zaliphone - 11-12-2012 12:13 PM ^^^I feel like any fanboy needs to read what you just wrote. XBL is nothing special and you're just paying for the sake of paying. RE: Wii-U - Arjahn - 11-13-2012 04:11 AM Back on the topic of the Wii U, I finally got around to trying out the display model they have at BestBouy, and I really noticed how...cheap... the controller felt. It wasn't as responsive as I had hoped, and it really felt like it was made out of cheap plastic, which wouldn't be that big of a problem (the Wii controllers were similar, although better made), but these things cost a ton. You'd think they could at least use some decent material from this console generation, but alas, not is so. When things are "light" people often feel that makes them cheap so im not concerned about that, but you said it didn't feel super responsive? That sucks that was my main original concern with the gamepad that was laid to rest when many others said it was great. What would you say the lag was between your touch and the action? 1/10 second? 1/5? Uhhhggg that scares me. I want one now ha, but still....I can wait. January is a good time to get one because there'll be more to do rather than waiting. Good video though, thanks. Answered a lot of questions I had about the WiiU and gave good impressions of the system and what it can do. I suspect Nintendo are hinting at something with the bananas and oranges. Haha. I like how smooth the transition is. This is so freaking neat. Looks very, very good RE: Wii-U - Skarro - 11-15-2012 01:05 AM You can run the console and some games without a T.V. RE: Wii-U - BumblebeeCody - 11-17-2012 11:15 AM I just realised the WiiU comes out tomorrow in America. Talk about un-frikkin-hype. |
