Best and Worst VG Movies - Mass Distraction - 01-28-2013 10:08 AM We certainly have had our share of the good and the bad when it comes to video game movies and tie-ins. What I'd like to know is what are your favorites and why? Which ones make you want to shove nails to your eyes and how badly? I'll start with a couple movies I personally liked, I'll get to my ranting on the bad ones later. Silent Hill is propably the best live action video game movie I have seen. It kept the spirit and overall story/mythos of the games fairly well and was just presented very nicely overall. One of the few movies I can never get enough of. Totally excited to see the sequel. Other good ones I should mention are Prince of Persia and Doom. I did enjoy those movies thoroughly. Then, of course, there's basically every animated VG movie ever, including Tekken, Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Final Fantasy. Speaking of, I really need to rewatch Advent Children. I managed to get my hands on a copy of the Complete Edition blyray and I intend to watch it all extras included. RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Psychospacecow - 01-28-2013 10:55 AM I think you can get Advent Children for $10. My brother got it for that or less at either bestbuy or amazon. My favorite VG movie would be Hitman. Least favorite, Tekken's movie. From what I have heard of the new Silent Hill movie, it was not good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTPHXxUyflk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXQwCmzyPaA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egXEowStJWY These were just reviews I randomly selected from Youtube to give you a better idea. By all means if you are a HUGE Silent Hill fan then you should still buy the movie but I just do not wish for you to be dissapointed. So just take that with a grain of salt. I really do not have many video game movies that I liked. I forget which Mortal Kombat movie it was that was not total shit, there was also Final Fantasy Spirits Within that I did not think was a bad CONCEPT but I think it would have been better without "Final Fantasy" slapped on the front. I liked the two Resident Evil movies and the first CGI movie, have not seen the second one yet. Also I loved the first Silent Hill movie. Doom was...meh and Prince of Persia was nice however I never played the games but I suppose that might have changed my attitude when I finished watching the movie. Advent Children was okay I suppose however I never played 7 so I really had no idea who half the people were or why there were there but that is just me for you RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Mass Distraction - 01-28-2013 10:03 PM (01-28-2013 10:56 AM)Xannidel Wrote: From what I have heard of the new Silent Hill movie, it was not good I tend to not watch reviews nor listen to them because it's extremely rare that I ever agree with them. If you want to know if something is good, watch/play it yourself. Example: I enjoyed the hell out of RE6 and pretty much all reviews said it was one of the worst games last year. Shows how much they knew. RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - BumblebeeCody - 01-28-2013 11:58 PM Advent Children... No....NO! I still hear the voices of that crapfest film...creeping into my soul....MY MIND! I won't let it get to me again. MUST.........resist! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Berry - 01-29-2013 07:59 AM Sad thing is that their is barely any BEST VG movie. Having had barely any contact with the Finaly Fantasy series, I found Advent Children to be very good. That is why you found it good, because if you played FFVII, then you'd realise how bad it. No, I love or EFFEFF: VEEEYEYE but that film. Oh man.....OH MAN OH MAN is that a huge stinker or wapanese weaboo fanservice. Ughh man. WTF happened to Cloud? Resident Evil: Damnation is good film. Silly but good. Doom was...OK. Tolerable I watched the Phoenix Wright film and that was OK...could've been(should've been) much better. But I liked it. Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea/The Rise of Darkrai are a good films. Tekken Blood Vengeance is a good film too. RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Arjahn - 01-29-2013 09:41 AM Favorite videogame movie is Wreck it Ralph, if it counts. I'm not in love with the movie like 497% of the internet, but I did think it was pretty well done, as compared to most of the Videogame movies that come out. Least favorite? Silent Hill... It's like they put a four year old girl in a cage with some cool-ish looking toys and gave her fourteen shots of espresso, recorded that, made a tape, crushed the tape into tiny pieces, fed those pieces to the Taco Bell dog, fed the Taco Bell dog actual Taco Bell for an hour and thirty-seven minutes, waited 6-8 hours for nature to take its course, picked the remnants of the tape out of the... product, then one of the two guys doing this said "You know what? This is really unnecessarily complicated, why don't we just delve into the lore and atmosphere of Silent Hill and try to make a genuinely horrific movie that utilizes the same features of the Silent Hill games and try to make a quality movie that the audience can enjoy." Then the other guy stabbed him in the esophagus and threw a bunch of CG on the screen. RE: Best and Worst VG Movies - Xannidel - 01-29-2013 09:42 AM Did they localize the Phoenix Wright movie? Is it up for sale regardless if it was localizied? I would rather not download it or something like that to watch it. Also no one mentioned the Professor Layton animated movie? That was such a nice movie and well worth it because I found it in a bargain bin in a Walmart. SCORE! It's mainly because the movies stray so, so far from the source material, it's not even recognizable anymore. The Doom movie was alright. I didn't hate it or like it fairly much. It didn't make me want to play Doom 3 again, either, so maybe that's a plus for the movie. Also, yes, Advent Children was bad, at least to me. Though, as with RE, I was not a big fan of FF7, but still hated how much they butchered the movie. How has no one mentioned the Super Mario Bros. Movie yet? In terms of favorites, I still to this day love Pokemon 3 and Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. I enjoyed, as in laughed at, the 'so bad it's good' dialogue of both Mortal Kombat movies. Were they bad? Yes, but they were enjoyably bad. Also, I'm with Arjahn on Wreck-it-Ralph, if it counts that is. It wasn't the greatest movie ever, but it was a fun movie. There haven't been too many good movies made from games. That's actually kinda saddening. Oh yeah, I forgot about the Pokemon movies, I always loved the one with Celebi (2000 I think) because unlike most of the other ones, a lot of it was just seeing a giant evil Tyranitar demolish everyone, it was a tangible bad guy because he was just menacing on his own, instead of having the plot tell us why to not like him, like most of the Pokemanz movies do. I mean, look at this guy. He's just scary lookin', at least to an 8 year old who sees him destroying everyone with Hyper beam. And as for the Mario Bros. Movie, iunno, I just think it's kind of cliche to say, but at least it's one of those movies that never really stood a chance in live action, unlike Silent Hill or Resident Evil, which are supposed to be not-exactly realistic, but moreso than an animated plumber who eats shrooms and kills turtles. Plus the the same nagging question. WHO THE HELL IS ALICE!? |
