I've been playing Pokemon Black for a couple of weeks now. When it comes to Pokemon I have been playing it non-stop until I've finished every gym, Elite 4 and all that extra stuff. But when I played Black I couldn't really get into it. At first I thought it was the uninspired design of the Pokemon, or the bad variation of Pokemon. Now that I've been playing it for at least 10 hours it just came to me. I think I might be done with Pokemon, as a concept.

While it makes sense for me, or anyone, to eventually get bored of something I never thought I would get bored of Pokemon. It's a series I've been with since day 1 and I have loved every game to death (Even the unpopular gen 3 and 4). A new game has always been the peak of my gaming interesting. But then I sat down with this one it all just felt tedious and slow. The feeling of adventure and excitement when you discover and catch a new Pokemon was gone. Trying to find what's effective against other pokemons was just annoying and took time. Everything about it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I got kind of sad when I realised how bored I was of the game. Pokemon has been one of those series I thought I would see through and always at least find playable. Now I just can't see myself playing Pokemon Black. I have at least 20 other games that I would enjoy a lot more right now so it would just dumb to go back to something I don't enjoy. So with this game, I'm probably done with the main Pokemon series. I probably won't pick a game up unless they make a huge change to it. Which I doubt they will since they have a winning concept going on.

Now that my rant is over..

Has anyone here been through something familiar?
Plenty of games do that for me, Final Fantasy is one of the more recent ones. I have no urge to play 13, the game is beautiful and all but it's missing the FF charm that 7,8,9 and yes even 10 had.
I am sort of curious about the 3DS game that came out even IF it is not really a FF game, it would still be nice to check it out and who knows? It might even be a nice breath of fresh air on a somewhat stale franchise.
I feel you on the Pokemon matter. But for me it started on gen 4. I don't know if it was for the 3D'ish style the DS was trying to add to the series; the goddamed identical gameplay with slight pokemon variations; the amount of time I had to dedicate into figuring out tactics instead of the usual blast'em-off with the opposite element or the fact that I grew up and don't have the time I had to level up my team.
You might call me a genwhure but the game really lost its magic after the first couple generations. I might just try the new Tactics version they released for the DS because well, I love tactics games :3
That happened to me when I read about the newer Pokemon games.
Something about viruses, and lawn-mowing pokémon, and a bajillion things to catch, etc.
Too much hassle imho
Since when was Gen 3 and 4 unpopular? Those are in my top 5! Seriously, Gen 3 is my favorite and was the peak of the Pokemon games IMO.

I hate admitting it, but the traditional handheld Pokemon game style is just getting unoriginal and old. They are all basically the same thing (in the worst way possible), albeit with a new minigame or bonus thing. It's kind of like the Elder Scrolls for kids.
Eh, it might just be Black, I disliked it at first, the music wasn't music, the Pokemon were badly designed, I didn't like the style of it, acting all high tech and futuristic with big cities, but after a while, once you get your good Pokemon, get through your battle's. It's just like Pokémon, but with a different skin on it.

If the Ruby and Sapphire remakes come around, or Gen 6 tries to go back to it's Gen 1-2 routes, but with better looking Pokemon (and no gen 5 Pokemon can be caught) you may like it more.

For me, I think that face that Game Freak had little space to work on the games, they tried to make it all fit, so didn't add unnecessary shit unlike now, where they throw in more buildings and NPC's and such.
That happened to me with Pokemon too. Been playing every game in the series, but I just have no desire to play them anymore.
If you know how to EV/IV train you're game will suddenly get interesting.

If you already know about the Pokemon Meta-game and still don't like it, then that's a shame.
I haven't played B&W however.

I know all about the meta-game since most of my friends likes to mess around like that. Personally Pokemon has never been a game like that for me.
I love pokemon with all my heart. I understand where you are coming from on Black....which is why I just continuously play my heartgold because its a lot better than Gen V

To be honest I couldn't get through HeartGold either. When I got to Kanto I only finished 2-3 gyms and haven't touched the game since then.Confused

Ah. I guess Pokemon has lost it's appeal then. Would be nice to have an alternative monster gathering game like Pokemon.

I agree - As far as I see it, I've changed since Pokémon first came out and my gaming tastes have changed.
I'd rather live with the memories of how childhood-fulfillingly awesome the game was and how many happy hours I spent playing it than going back to it now and thinking "meh".
I still love pokemon, so I don't know your feeling ._.

Actually, my goal is to make the best pokemon team in Soul Silver so that I could beat anybody, anywhere ^_^

But as far as I'm concerned, I kinda lost the appeal of FF. The game that I really liked is FFXII, where we could move our character around and fight enemies in real time instead of random monsters appearing.

But after I began playing FFXIII, I thought it lost something... and I realised that I was doing the same thing over and over again... which sucked.
