What games did you love, and were super-excited about the sequel, only to be horribly disappointed? Whether it be because the sequel was obviously worse, or just didn't capture that spark that you loved in the first one? Or even where the sequel is obviously better...but you just don't love it as much?
I'd say that Arkham City disappointed me a lot. The gameplay was much better, but it just didn't gel together as a whole like the first one did.
Mario Galaxy 2. I really don't know why.
No More Heroes 2. Another "I'm not sure why" entry.
Gears 3:
The gameplay was as crisp as the second, but the story was full of holes, unresolved plot-lines, and some random WTF moments. 2 will always be my favorite.
Final Fantasy X-2:
Really??

Off topic, but have you gone back to the first recently? It's SO BAD.

Star Control 3, Not star control
Angel of Darkness, Bug infested shitstorm
Snake's Revenge, Not metal gear
Dragon Age 2, One dungeon
Perfect Dark Zero, Not perfect dark
Splinter Cell Post Chaos Theory, Not stealth anymore
Deus Ex: Invisible War (thank god for Human Revolution),
Star Wars: Force Unleashed 2, Terrible
Blacksite: Area 51, No Duchovny
FEAR2, Goes insane and abandons lots of what made the first good
Castlevania 2: Simon's quest, You know why
Condemned 2: Bloodshot, Almost abandons the awesome investigation from the first
Dino crisis 3, Space
Tony hawk Ride, UGH
Duke Nukem forever, Had no chance
Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One, Co-op and broken
There's more.

Duke Nukem Forever deserves its own thread, nay spot in hell, for how much of a letdown it was.
Well with Condemned 2 you were not really an agent anymore so the investigations were not the real highlight anymore.
OT: FF X-2 (Not really my favorite game in the franchise)
Batman: AC (That game was just not for me, I played for 25 mins and stopped and never touched it again. The place is so huge and I HATE when games throw you in a huge place and what is worse is those joker BS clue things were EVERYWHERE and they were not as puzzling as they were in AA.)
Devil May Cry 2 (I do not own it but I watched my friend play it and while introducing a new character is all fine and dandy, the least they could do is give her a decent weapon or moves. The boss fights were a pain to beat and the ending was kind of like "...wut?")
Oh, Soviet and Nuclear Strike. Sorry, updated PS graphics, you're shitter than the SNES / Megadrive.

Not played it in a good bit, but thinking back, trying to understand the muddled plot of all the games was an exercise in futility. Fun game, bad story. At least the second had a giant worm.

First one had the unforgivable thing of cutscenes that were essentially the same as gameplay. A LOT.
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.
The original game was great, it had very minor flaws. Mercenaries 2 fixed those flaws or made them less noticeable with other ones.
Banjo Kazooie : Nuts and Bolts, I think I was the only one who had any expectations for that game only to have my soul crushed when it didn't remind me of a flash game I played in middle school.
Plot-holes in Gears 3? I didn't pick up on those. Where?
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts yeah.
Guitar Hero World Tour
King of Fighters XIII (Hardly anyone likes that game)
Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition (Ver.2012 did fix AE however)
Syndicate. So good on the SNES, but this FPS version was pretty poor.
Super Smash Bros Brawl:
The limitations of the Wii made it frustrating to play online (which can be said for any online Wii game). Masahiro Sakurai is constantly saying how he wanted to make the game non-competitive yet it failed in doing that. TRIPPING is wank! All of my friends grew up since SSBM, meaning we didn't play at each others house. I still play it occasionally but it's pretty dissapointing.
I liked Duke Nukem Forever.
Sonic The Hedgehog 4
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Perfect Dark: Zero
Whether you can include them:
Street Fighter x Tekken - One of the worst fighting games ever made
Final Fantasy XIV
Some of the later Sonic games would have been decent as standalones. But as part of the Sonic franchise ? PAH
Also, Beardy, I don't think the Yanks understand the word "fluffed"
Portal 2.
The game is a lot of fun when playing co-op. But single-player lacked the atmosphere that the first one had. Probably because they added a dickshit AI who keeps cracking jokes at you in a funny, un-scary fasion.

I'm adding "dickshit AI" to my gaming vocabulary
EDIT - I'm also adding FEAR 2 to the list of fluffed sequels. It tried to add too much to an already decent platform
