What games would you, personally, give top marks to even though there are loads of problems with them?

My example is very obvious. Skyrim. It's flawed not just because of the glitchiness, but the combat isn't that great, and even though you do many epic quests it doesn't really change the world very much. Even during bits where you're meant to be storming cities with an army, the army seems to consist of about 30 people. Dragons end up as just irritating after a while.

It's still, for me, a ten out of ten.
I'm curious as to why you would rate a game 10/10 if you KNOW there are flaws in the first place. Undecided

Journalist and Personal are the same thing though. I could rate Ocarina of Time 10/10 but note the flaws, therefore it would void the 10/10 essentially because it isn't perfect. Sorry if I'm killing your thread, but I have no idea how it works.

So have you never had that feeling of "this is the best game ever" just because of how much you loved it, yet noted that it has flaws? Out of interest, are there any 10/10 games in your personal opinion?
Defiantly Killer Instinct over here and I'm talking about the original for SNES not gold for the N64 which is actually 2 (I could never really grasp the control scheme), while it's basically find a combo and spam the crap out of it till you win it's still addicting as hell and a great game that gets a 10 out of 10 from me.

Nope. I love Ocarina of Time. Best game ever. But I still see flaws in it. Amongst speed runners it's known that Ocarina of Time is incredibly broken.

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. One of the best fighting games ever created(if not the best). Yet the balancing issue with characters like Sean and Q are pretty bad. 100% Stun-kill combos and more

Resident Evil 4. One of the greatest games ever made. Is a tad linear with 0 puzzle elements.

To give a game 10/10 you have to brutally honest with yourself. This game maybe incredible and perfection of that genre, but if you think logically about the game and don't "fanboy/girl" up yourself you can see what the true issues with the game are without crapping on it. You mentioned Skryim being perfect but can somehow swat off the glitches and combat. Bethesdas QA team are wank to be honest. It seems to the norm to release a game and expect glitches. If spinning heads and falling through the map was on a Zelda game....there'd be murder. You have to be fair really.

So do you REALLY think that when you play a game you can be totally, perfectly objective reviewing it? Which is better, Tetris or Resident Evil 4?

That key word. No, I can't. When I find Resident Evil 4 slightly linear with none of the puzzle elements that the previous installments had, those are are points that would effect my score. However, you might find that having it straight forward with no puzzle elements to be good. But the main point is that I am reviewing it fairly without being completely biased and that includes; bashing the game or praising it.

I am a HUGE fan of Zelda. But after playing Skyward Sword I spent 2 months thinking about that game compared to others. It wasn't as good as I thought it was. But still amazing nonetheless. But I can tell you flaws with the game and why I would rate Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess higher.

I don't understand the point your making here? Depends on what Tetris version I am playing vs Xbox 360 version of RE4.

I also view games with a critical eye but to say something is a 10 out of 10 is to say you love it and forgive it's flaws. No game will be perfect man, because we aren't perfect, so by all standards there will never be a true 10 out of 10 game you just have to take it for what it is.

Man, it's not complicated. What games do you love that are flawed? What would you give a ten rating...PERSONALLY.

Er, I have to take issue with your "Journalist and Personal are the same thing"

Still, your favourite version of Tetris vs your favourite version of RE4? Up to you. Which is better?

That's the point I'm making. I can't give a game 10/10 because I'd be lying to myself.
For example:
Skyrim is a 10/10. It's perfect.
But <- the keyword
there are those Bethesda glitches of corrupted, saves, dancing spiders and the combat isn't as fined tuned.

You have to be honest, and you've clearly shown that in your first post. It's one of those Oxymoron titles.
10/10 games............. that are flawed

My favourite version of Tetris would be Tetris DS (2006) vs RE4 Xbox 360(2011)
Why? Resident Evil 4 left far more of an impact on me personally. Great controls. Love the soundtrack. Great (slightly cheesy) dialogue. Amazing locations and set pieces. Still had the level of "shit brix around corners". Creative enemy design. Took itself a lot more seriously. Led the way for 3rd person shooters. Likable characters. Lots of replay-ablity with the campaign and added unlock modes (Mercs, Adas Mission, Separate Ways) making it worth you money, in game challenges, exciting for speed running. That's just a basic bullet point-ing of the what's good about it. So much more to say about it. But it'd be lengthy post.

Comparing against Tetris is easy really. Tetris DS is amazing but it's not one of my favourites.

I don't believe there is a perfect game from the side of myself that writes reviews (for Examiner.com).

I do believe however, that there are games that are perfect for me, even though they have flaws. Trials HD is perfect for me, so is Minecraft. Super Metroid, Link to the Past, both perfect for me as well. They all have flaws, but for me personally they are perfect.

"Why? Resident Evil 4 left far more of an impact on me personally."

That was kind of my point to start with.
Hmm this is a toughy, first I would start with Radiata Stories for the PS2.

It has a nice storyline with so many NPCs that you can later try to recruit. The game has a day and night cycle to give the player a form of strategy for where to go to recruit an NPC, the music is just so awesome and varies depending on where you are. The armor and weapons you can have are all different and have their own attack styles in battle.
What I consider flaws? During some missions time is at a standstill (where time does not flow) or you can be on a mission and essentially have the day continue on and on until you finish said mission. The combat can be annoying because the characters like to shout or grunt when they swing weapons and what not which can be annoying.

That is one game that is just my opinion.
