I don't know why, but whenever I get DLC for a game in like a free roam world, I just head straight to it instantly. My first instinct is to see what that new DLC is and what it does. My brothers say "Oh, don't do that everything will be too easy since you're such a low level." Of course I speak of Oblivion, what was it called? Oh yeh, Shivering Isles. I headed straight for that as soon as I got out of the tutorial area. What do you guys think of this matter?
I agree with your brother because yes all DLC difficulty is based on level and you might not get the full experience if you got to it immediately, it might be made specifically to have certain monsters in certain area protected by minions but if you are a low level said minions would be a joke and turn a supposed to be super hard area into a moderately hard area. Also some DLC has mentions of stuff done or explained in the main story if you do it first you will just be lost when that part comes around, I am an impatient person but being patient for somethings can give you something better than if you went for it immediately. (one example would be an unripened fruit tastes disgusting/ok if you eat it right away but if you let it ripen it tastes great)
I don't usually buy DLC. Yeah, I know, people may say to me "But they're a great asset to your gaming time! You got to have it!" Well, first of all, I got no credit card to buy the DLC, so I can only play the actual game. Second of all, I don't see the REASON to pay for more in my game if I'm already really happy with the game I bought.

Of course, there ARE some exceptions. In LittleBigPlanet, there was the Solid Snake patch that would give you an AMAZING tool for your levels (the Paintinator). But that was the only one I bought >_>
My brother does that, In Fallout 3 he headed straight to Mothership Zeta; This off-course meant he had ridiculously overpowered guns for the whole game. For me personally that would ruin it, However, he loved being hilariously overpowered.

I like my games to be progressively difficult so that they start at a decent difficulty but become difficult by the end. For me difficulty has a lot to do with immersion - If a game is too easy or hard I will not enjoy it (There are exceptions to this rule).

However, If you are playing a game without the desire to be challenged I would definitely go to the DLC at the first possible point as it seems that most DLC's exist simply to give the player the 'best' or overpowered equipment, Although I found all Oblivion expansions to be great fun regardless same applies for Fallout 3 (Aside from the one that it becomes a different genre of game...)
I just want to say that I think DLC is literally the cancer killing video games more than anything else out there.

I agree with that completely for most games, but some games still do it right where DLC is an expansion pack and not something used to finish their unfinished game so they can milk more money out of their fan base.

I couldn't agree more - The only reason I've played DLC is because it's within a 'game of the year' edition.

Seriously I'm proud to say I've never paid for DLC. EVER. And why should I, Shouldn't the game being released be complete anyway? If they want to add something it should have been in the final release.

But let's not mention Capcom and various other companies disgusting tactics in which the DLC is already on the disk you paid for... Angry

I point you towards my argument on this (the post above yours) Smile

That's kind of obsolete when you don't even *cough* pay for it.... I never pay for PC games.... :x if you catch my drift.

I don't pay for PC games either I wonder how this is possible hmm... Wink
@cingchris: Yeah as with nearly everything there are exceptions - However, I don't believe that these exceptions make DLC worth existing. I mean sure it has it's good points but companies have milked it to the point that it has just become a way to suck money out of the buyers.

It's disappointing to see the deterioration in companies wanting to make a quality product - I mean back in the SNES days 'Capcom' would make a game about Goofy (Goof Troop) absolutely amazing, Nowadays... Lost Planet, Dead Rising and the myriad of less than great fighting games.

It makes me sad as I love the old Capcom - I still play games like Marvel Super Heroes, Megaman and Ghouls and Ghost because they are so good.

But it sucks to see one of the best game companies become like some crappy companies such as EA *Shivers*

I also agree with this I think if the days when gaming didn't have the internet continued we would have a much higher great game/terrible game ratio because companies would have to finish their products before they were released instead of just giving us DLC to finish the game and make a little bit more money, personally I think all DLC should go through a screening process and be decided upon if it's finishing an incomplete game or actually an expansion pack and if its just adding to an incomplete game made free..but that will never happen. *sigh*

That scenario you described... I think it's best described as... a genuine desire to create something that people will enjoy.

Still even in the SNES days there was a high amount of poor games, But I always thought that the people who were making the 'good' games would put blood sweat and tears into it. That still happens today however it''s slowly slipping away... even for Nintendo.

I dunno. I'm on the fence for DLC. If its something they've worked on and have completed before the game comes out, then I do think its ridiculous. If they overcharge the DLC, then its stupid. Though, if its done where its after the game is released, they follow fans feedback of what they should do, and do a complete work through of it reducing bugs and etc., then I do think DLC is good. Though, the chance for that happening isn't all too high.

The problem is that not every game is available on the PC. And there are also people that prefer to play on the consoles rather than on the PCs for various reasons.
And the fact that they include the DLC stuff on the CD you bought is plain ridiculous.

On topic, it really depends on the DLC. Since we're probably talking about map expansions / extra storyline, I always check if the content is advisable to be played during or after completing the main story. However, even if I can play it w/o finishing the game, I usually don't as they often have higher level stuff or items that scale with your level.
