There are 2 versions of the PS3, one fat and the other slim. The fat one is the earlier model that did have backwards compatibility for PS2 games but I am unsure about the price for one of those. The slim one is the newer model that does not have backwards compatible.

Did you decide on this yet, by the way?

He decided to buy an N-gage.

No Gaems or No Gaems.
Tough choice.
I own both, I've owned my 3DS for a year and a half, and my PS3 for a year and a half, I've loved the 3DS, and even though I dislike Sony the PS3 is nice, I watch more videos and such than play games, but it's nice, since sometimes my brother plays the Xbox and I play the PS3 or vise versa. The PS3 also allowed me to play PS2 games, which was nice since Metal Gear 2 and 3 are great games.
I've spent more time on my 3DS though, yet most of this time was the Ambassador games, since I finished the small libary quickly. However this year and the next will delivar some nice games, so they both have a lot of ups and downs.
But it depends, I'd say get the PS3 since it has more right now, could give you more time playing, and is a media service too, but the 3DS has Nintendo's Classics, is portable, and can give you a lot of fun playing if you have the right games.
Still, even though you may have decided, I still think this is nice to post for anyone else.

Poor choice. I mean anyone with any sense would go for a Barcode Battler.
No, just wondered is all. Interesting dilemma cos they're so very different.

Well, it was just an half-assed handheld AND phone without any decent library. Pretty sure the battery was terirble as well. I didn't have on myself but a friend of mine did.

If you want a 3DS, just wait until the 3DS XL is released in August.
