I got me Lego Lord of the Rings yesterday, and I've played for about 1h30 so far. I've got to say that this is shaping up to be a really good game. The controls are quite nice (WASD for movement, UHJK for actions and PL;' for camera panning) and I've quickly gotten used to them.

The voice acting and music is that of the films which, on its own, makes for a good experience. The graphics are also really nice and run very smoothly on my 4-year old laptop.

I do have one issue though. You can buy stuff with the round lego bricks you find in game. The thing is, you get most of those by breaking stuff. I spent 20 minutes trashing the party and most properties in Hobbiton to increase my wealth.

I've got to say that I've never run into a bad Lego spin-off... it's just something they seem to be able to do really well. Taking a franchise, and making a Lego game version that adds more humour and a touch of (good) satire. Good going !

What say you, DYKG members ?
Yea, the Lego games are usually always fun.

Also, what do you mean you can buy stuff with the studs? (the round ones you get by breaking stuff) All the Lego games allow you to buy unlockable stuff in the hub area of the games. Or do you mean this game lets you buy things in the game itself, and not just the hub area? If so, I gotta say that's a good improvement.

You can buy new characters with your studs. I haven't reached anywhere where you can buy stuff in-game yet - but then again, I've only played for a short while so I'll give an update in due time Tongue
DAMN YOU SERIOUSLY! Now I HAVE to get these games.
Might start with a cheaper one like Lego Batman or Lego Star Wars though.
I haven't played a LEGO game since the second Indiana Jones one. I completed that one 100% and then was simply done with the games.

Out of those two, I only played Lego Star Wars on the DS, and that was 50 shades of excellent Tongue

Did you not like them ? Or was it a "completed one, completed them all" kind of thing ?
I've only played one of them from beginning to end and I absolutely loved it.

Lego: Pirates of the Caribbean
Here are a few screenshots from Lord of the Rings
Very minor spoilers for people who haven't read the book, or watched the film

Frodo fighting for the ring (which looks more like a bracelet)

Aragorn making out with the Ringwraith. Sam looks on with lust.

It's this kind of humour that makes me love Lego games

Wait...what is this moonspeak in those screenshots? SERIOUSLY...what kind of demon are you?

But, in all seriousness, the stretcher thing is funny. This is why the Lego games are made, so we can have some humor in the stories filled to the brim with such dark themes like....a dwarf being thrown like a ball...
Can't wait for lego city undercover.

I'm-a Italiano speekin-a pleyer Tongue
There aren't many opportunities to speak Italian here so I keep it up with dat vidya. Who said gaming wasn't educational ?

Yeah, just before the stretcher bit, the Ringwraiths put out the fire blocking them using an extinguisher Big Grin
Are the Lego video games as good as people say they are? I've never really payed attention to any of them. Honestly it's new to me that they even make things other than those bricks.

I'd definitely reccomend that you play a Lego game, albeit one of the 'older' ones. It's great fun playing through a universe you know, but with a slight twist

It was more of me just becoming tired of the LEGO games. I'd been playing since the first LEGO Star Wars, I still have quite a few of the games, I'd completed most of those all the way through, or damn close, and I just decided I was finished with the LEGO games. At least for now. That Lego City Undercover game looks pretty awesome.
