Hello there! This is my first time posting Did You Knows!
I decided to make 'em about Super Mario!
So, here we go!
THE MINUS WORLD!
In Super Mario Bros. for the Japanese Famicom Disk System, there is a secret world called "The Minus World." The reason it is called this is because, instead of the levels being called your usual "World 1-1" or "1-2" they are named "World -1," "World -2," and "World -3". Level -2 seems almost like a copy of that one level in which you run on the bridges and jump, trying to avoid the fishes. World -1 and -3, however, seem odd. -1 is a recolored level, which seems to be on land but apparently you swim instead of run and it has a bunch of Princess Peaches and Bowsers floating around. -3 is designed like a normal Blue level, except with blue lava, bloopers and a grey sprite version of Bowser at the end. Once you beat him and the walking animation of Mario moves on, no Toad is there. Just the "Thank you, Mario! But our princess is in another castle," message.
MARIO'S OVERALLS!
Miyamoto designed Mario with overalls that contrast with his sleeves to help in the animation of his arm motions. The sleeves are of the same color of his shirt and without the overalls the arms would disappear during the movements.
ALL NIGHT NIPPON SUPER MARIO BROS!
All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. is a very rare version of the Super Mario Bros. based on the popular Japanese radio show, All Night Nippon. The game, released only in Japan for the Famicom Disk System.
FRIDAY THE 13TH!
Super Mario Bros was released in Japan on Friday the 13th.
WARIO!
Wario's name is a combination of the word "warui", the Japanese word for bad, and Mario.
BOWSER THE OX!
Bowser was originally sketched as an ox by Miyamoto, but his drawings were misinterpreted by animator Yoichi Kotabe as a turtle.
PAULINE!
Pauline, Mario's first damsel in distress from Donkey Kong, was named after Polly James, wife of Nintendo of America's employee, Don James.
OSSAN!
You all probably know this (since this is a common Mario trivia thingy always being passed around), but Miyamoto wanted to name Mario "Mr.Video," but had he stuck with that name, Mario games might've not existed. By calling him Mr.Video, he wanted him to just be a character who would make cameo appearances in every Nintendo game. But did you know that before the idea of Mr.Video for a name came up, Miyamoto was thinking of calling him "Ossan," which is Japanese for "Middle-Aged Guy."
KOOPA TROOPA'S ARE PERVERTS!
Koopa troopa's were inspired by creatures in Japanese mythology called, kappas. According to Japanese folklore, kappas were about the size of a young boy, covered in green scales, and were fond of cucumbers, sumo wrestling, and playing pranks like farting loudly and looking up women’s kimonos (a type of dress from Japan). Just as there are koopas with divergent shell colors and ones who have teamed up with Mario to combat the forces of evil, there are also kappas of differing demeanor. There are some who dragged horses and livestock into rivers and feasted on their entrail, and some who sat in rudimentary toilets and had a fetish for fondling women’s buttcheeks while they attempted to poop. Wow.
Here's a picture of a kappa. (contains far away boobs, so click at your own risk!) http://www.adventuresinpoortaste.com/wp-.../kappa.jpg
So, yeah that's all I got. Oh! Also, the clouds that circulate the Ghostly Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy, look a lot like the hell valley sky tree figures from Super Mario Galaxy 2.
