As you might see, my avatar has been changed from the fun disco yellow ball of yellowness that is usually is, and is now some weird image of an engineer falling down stairs... anybody know what's up with that?

It wasn't me though. OR(!) it might be to do with your browser being delayed and carrying over images to another tab.
Did you just recently view that image(engineer)?

Did you try tapping the monitor or restarting the modem?
Both, as well as performing an exorcism and then in turn calling upon the wrath of satan to fix it and smite my enemies, but alas, no result.
EDIT: Now It's back, all bask in the glorious name of Satan.
