So Wii-U is going to be out before the end of the year. So I'm wondering, what do you want to know, or what do you hope for the Wii-U?

For me:
Interface
I hope the interface is different than the Wii's Interface (like I hope it's not just an updated version of that. I hope they redo the whole thing.) I'm kind of thinking something similar to the 3DS interface, but with the ability to expand more into a broad layout (kind of similar to how you can change the shop menu's in the Playstation Store by pressing Square. If you're familiar, you'll understand.)

I hope they add a Trophy/Achievement type system for their games, because that's one thing that I really like about the PS3/XBox/Steam. It gives you an extra reason to play the game, and adds replay value to it.

I hope they take out those stupid Friend Code's and replace them with actual usernames. It's honestly ridiculous that they even had the friend codes in the first place. There's no personality in that. So I'm just really hoping they make it so you get to pick your own username.

I'm also hoping the home screen is available completely on the Gamepad (without using the TV).

It's innevitable that it will have an internet browser. I'm just very curious as to how it will function (obviously it has the advantage of being able to have a full keyboard on the controller itself. But I'm wondering how many windows or tabs can be opened at once (with 3GB RAM, it should be able to process a decent amount of webpages at once, without a lot of delay.) I'm also hoping it will be able to support Flash and updates for flash. Something the PS3's web browser has had trouble with in some cases.

Video and Audio playback. I think it's a necessary feature. I mean, if for nothing else but to download and watch game trailers/videos, or to live stream E3, the Wii-U should have it's own video and audio player.

Bluetooth connectivity. I don't know if it's been said whether or not it can connect via bluetooth, but it should be able to.

Hardware
I won't talk about hardware too much.

BluRay player. Or at least a DVD player. It's kind of understood that everything's going digital now, but I think Nintendo should realize that people would rather have 1 device to play games and watch movies on than have 2 separate ones. And why not? Although I don't expect the Wii-U to have a disc drive for video devices (DVD/BluRay), I think it really should.

USB 3.0 Ports. 3.0 ports, because 3.0 will replace 2.0 ports eventually.

Peripheral
I mean, I think it goes without saying there will be a lot of peripheral for the Wii-U. I'd just like to see what sort of stuff they come up with.

I mean, even if it doesn't have or do any of these things, if the price is right, I'll still probably get one.

I think that's all I have to say right now. What do you guys want to see form the Wii-U?
I also hope they revamp the online. Using friend codes for each separate game is just an inconvenience. And I love the idea of a trophy/achievement system, it definitely adds replayability to any game. And I really like the interface of the 3DS, being able to make folders and change size at any time is great.
Just for Nintendo to keep their innocence with not screwing a customer a over. You buy a Wii game. That's it. Not Day 1 DLC, No locked content, no stupid online passes, no installing the game on broken day 1 updates, no pointless Facebook integration and so on.

To quote one of my recent posts. The WiiU specs can be found here

The full specs haven't been released yet but it Nintendo have finally stepped up in the graphics department and finally taken it to next gen (as in, far from PS3) and beyond.

Also, lets be smart about BluRay I doubt Microsoft and Nintendo would ever add BluRay since it's Sony technology.

Edit: Two topics on the same thing here and here

Well, don't expect an achievement system for the Wii U. Nintendo has a whole philosophy against it.

While it would be handy to have these features, it could easily make Wii U get too expensive, since it includes buying licenses of lot of technologies. Even Windows 8 is dropping built-in DVD support to remain cheap. And Nintendo likes to keep it cheap.
I like the Wii U due to it's screen in the controller, the ability to continue the game somewhere else in the house is amazing, I can't be the only one who would love to play a Gamecube game on it, hell if it were to be hackable, the screen could be used to play PC games, since for the controller to work the game is being streamed to it (I believe), it can be done on the Vita, why not the Wii U?

I have high hopes for it, but it all comes down to games.

That's unfortunate. Could you please post a link to a source for this?

Yeah, I don't expect it.
Personally, I think they're pushing their touch screens a bit too far. I mean, they were sweet when they first released the DS, and I still enjoy the 3DS, but come on, I miss buttons Nintendo. I also think that they're straying too far from their old, innovative style, and that they've sort of missed the point of their innovation. It isn't about gimmicks or new amazing ermigawd controllers, it's about great games that we can enjoy for hours on end that push technology to its limits and let us have fun doing it. Super Mario World was innovative and, in my humble opinion, the king of Mario Platformers, and it didn't need to have a super high tech control interface, it was just really well thought out and challenging with a brick-shitting ton of secrets and hidden paths.

Now they're trying to "win back the hardcore crowd", but they're still going about it the wrong way. They're trying to use M rated games like ZombieU and port over FPSs and other hits from the other leading consoles, they're pushing to hard.

I dunno, maybe this is all bullshit. But what I'm trying to say is that they should stop forcing all of this stuff down the consumers' throats and just focus on doing what they do best, making great, quality games and dominating the handheld market with Pokemon.
I hope for the digital distribution of games to come for the WiiU

They're not pushing this down anyone's throats, and there's a controller that doesn't have a touch screen available.

It seems Wii U actually WILL have an achievements system. But top game designers in the company didn't want that. Unlike Microsoft, they won't REQUIRE games to include it. It should work just like in 3DS.

The third link doesn't add much information, since it's only an opinion article, but it enforces Nintendo's position.

I love achievements, but I don't think I'd complain if Wii U didn't have an achievements system, given the opinions their game designers have about it. They have decades of experience and know what they're talking about. In fact, I often stop really playing and enjoying a game in order to complete an achievement, which is nothing more than a completely superficial reward. Digital applauses are a better way to reward a player for doing something great? Well, that's for you to guess.

Miyamoto himself has said that he hates Touchscreen phones solely because they lack buttons, he has a Blackberry I believe just because he hates Touchscreens.

He may be putting touchscreens on controller, but that will always be a small part in the game, besides, it's probably advisers telling him to.
Is the Wii-U's touch screen multi-touch?
(08-21-2012 07:44 AM)agentkuo Wrote: [ -> ]Is the Wii-U's touch screen multi-touch?

I don't think so. Nintendo doesn't care about multi-touching because Wii U isn't a tablet. Multi-touch would be a problem because you hold the game pad like you hold any controller, not like a tablet. To use both the screen and the buttons, you'd most likely lay the Game Pad on your legs or in a table, and it obviously wouldn't be pleasing.
I guess. I've never had the philosophy to not do something just because I don't have to, even if it would make for something better. So I kinda disagree with that, but whatever.
I have been following the wii-u heavy.

The screen will NOT have multi-touch
The Wii-U WILL have achievments. It was leeked that they are called "Accomplishments" some racing game developer (can't remember who) offered a job and one of the sections said "working with ps3 trophies and wii-u accomplishments"

Skimmed over this thread really quick so probably missed questions but I should be able to answer any, been following the Wii-U hard.
