That's great, but it's up to the developers to take advantage of the hardware. There's absolutely no guarantee that the games will look or run faster on the Wii U.

I played Tekken Tag 2 at MCM on the WiiU and the graphics easily rival those of the Tag 2 arcade cabinets. It looks gorgeous and much better than the Xbox 360 and PS3. Games on the WiiU will look better but they won't be anywhere near the level of what the WiiU is graphically capable of. The WiiU is extremely powerful, true next generation technology, but with games like Tag 2, Bioshock and the rest of the third party titles coming out for it, the games won't look much better since they were developed using dev kits for the Xbox and PS3, and that's 7 year old technology.

That's great for Tekken Tag 2, but I stick by my previous statement. It's up to the developers to make the games look impressive, not Nintendo. Sure, it's possible, and I'm not saying it isn't, but to use the "games will look better on the Wii U" as a selling point is foolish. There were plenty of games that looked better on the Xbox rather then the PS3, which is the more powerful of the two. Hopefully developers start taking advantage of what the Wii U can do graphically instead of gimmicky really quick. I can't see myself buying Black Ops 2 on a "powerful machine" when it doesn't look any different from the Xbox version.

That's not my point. The developers can only make the games as good as the technology that's available to them. Tag 2/Batman will look better on the WiiU but only by a small margin. The console may add smaller levels of detail but these games are ports of old/current gen technology. Also, the Xbox isn't more powerful than the PS3. The PS3 may have a stupid way of processing (Two 256 CPUs at 700MHz) but the graphics card, processing power and processing speeds are of a much higher standard than the Xbox. The Xbox IS also a 720p console whereas the PS3 is a true 1080p console. In a nutshell, the WiiU (WiiU owners) are going to have to wait A LONG time until we get true third party titles for the WiiU since all of these games are ports from old/current generation technology. What this means is that you can buy AC: III on Xbox and it'll look pretty sexy. It'll look sexier on PS3 but will be pretty much classed as hardcore sexy porn on the WiiU. But that's due to game porting. Third Party developers need to make WiiU exclusive titles to show of the hardware. That's not going to happen any time soon though...

Lastly, I don't think using Call of Duty as a good argument case since that game is a 600p game(it's not HD basically, but upscaled to 720p, and also explains why it looks pretty good on a 480p console like the Wii). Not only are the graphics basic, but so is the shading and texture models, though the frame rate is one of it's best points (constant 60FPS). Playing Call of Duty expecting good graphics is like driving a Mini and expecting it to be fast since it has four wheels.

You misread my post, I said the Xbox had some better looking games then the PS3, which is a more powerful machine (said machine being PS3).

So you're repeating everything I've already said.

Got it.

I stand by my use of Black Ops 2 because, like I said, I'm not going to buy it on a more powerful machine to play the game on when it (the game) looks the same on the other consoles. I already have an Xbox, there's no reason to get a more powerful Wii U when all the game footage I've seen from both consoles shows no significant difference.

(much like they did with the wii, which didnt see a price drop for 3 years i think?) I only have 2 real life friends getting it and neither of them are getting the same games. Sad

Also for those multiplatform games the WiiU will have the best online! Pictochat and Instant messaging live anytime. Pause to Video chat anytime. Take Screenshots, Comment on specfic part of the games! (Can't see the comment until you reach that part of a game, designed to discuss spoiler free, //I can't believe hero A killed hero B!//omg I beat that in 30 seconds! look at the time in this screenshot!) Plus there's more unreleased miiverse and Nintendo Network features they still haven't announced! Oh and it's free.. for those playing on 360

Edit: Come on I need a blops2 buddy for zombies, we will be best friends forever.

edit2: Also remember for those getting multiplatform games on other consoles that the WiiU has more then twice the disc read speed and 4 times the RAM!

I have zero friends getting a WiiU. I'm feeling quite outcast here in the real world. I'd love to play Black Ops 2 (or really any game) with people from here, but it seems most of the active people spend most of their time on the 360, which is something I do not own, nor plan on owning.
The wiiu sounds like its going to be a big hit. if unity engine works on wiiu, think of all the benifits indie developers can get. For once their game will be on the screen unlike on steam where only the best ones can come out to steam. Screw Steam!!!!!

I think that's most peoples cases. But also backs up what I was saying about having to wait for actual WiiU third party titles. I think Nintendo have screwed themselves over with the WiiU due to how they treated the fanbase and the console when the Wii came out. To me, anyone buying the WiiU is only buying it for the exclusives rather than the third party titles. I'm interested about how Bioshock Infinite will use the controller but that's not worth buying it for. Maybe borrow from a friend or something but meh.
I own a 360 Gardocki, simply dont use it often since I also own a ps3 with free online. And the wiiU will also have external mics and party systems. The online is being praised by developers and they don't even have full access and info yet until system launch. Also the WiiU has achievments, they are called accomplishments.

I think the reason why so little info is released is because they want it to remain un-copied for as long as possible. The gamepad had replicated attempts (smartglass) within a year of that info being released

When it comes down to it the WiiU will most likely not lower in price within the next three years (since the wii was almost 4 and they made the same claim of starting low and not lowering), and they will have a new Smash-bros within the next 2. So you can't go wrong buying one.

But that's the whole point of the indsutry growing, by feeding from each other. I highly doubt Nintendo are even worried about the Smartlgass even making a dent in the WiiU sales. So such small amount of information being released means you will be buying a console guessing that's going to get more.

The problem is that the only WiiU game worth getting is ZombiU and if that sucks, you're stuck with a console and no games. Nintendo isn't really much of a game but more of an activity center like Playstation HOME. Any third party titles coming to the WiiU like Tekken Tag 2 are delayed or are already secured on the other consoles. Which means, why wait when; if you own an Xbox 360/PS3, you could buy it on there. The only people I see the WiiU appealing to right away are those that ONLY have a Wii, but if you're going to spend £350 on the WiiU, then why wouldn't you use that money to buy an Xbox 20gb with a crap ton of games rather than 1 console with 1 game? I also don't see myself playing NSMBU on my own so I have no intention of picking that up. No online so...meh

The information about NSMBU is pretty cool. thanks Big Grin
So I played Rayman Legends demo at a local gamestop with the Wii-U

Okay, I won't lie, it was fun and I enjoyed it. However feel like the controller is too big and square. Like really, it feels awkward. There's also the touch screen segment of the game. HOLY SHIT THAT WAS ANNOYING.

It wasn't because it was bad, or that it was clunky and glitchy. It was the fact that it just took forever because it so it's hard to get use to. All the cutting and tilting and tapping is like adsnfkjsdaejsbf. Then there's this part where you guide Rayman through this rotating tunnel with spikes on the side, so you have to rotate different ways so he falls through the tunnels without touching the spikes.

It just feels weird switching back to the tiny screen on the Wii-U, to a big screen TV, and having to alternate between them back and forth. Maybe it's just me and the fact that I SUCK NUTS at iPod games. I honestly thought it would have been JUST as good on the Wii, where you can you just move the remote instead of having to touch the screen and everything and just akdfnsdlkfj...

(11-06-2012 08:05 AM)Skarro Wrote: [ -> ]And the wiiU will also have external mics and party systems.

While the controller has an external mic, you won't be able to use it to voice chat. Nintendo confirmed that voice chatting will have to be done through third party microphones.

I as well had a chance to play the Wii U at Gamestop and yea, Rayman looked great, but it was the worst game they could have used to demo the system. They really needed to demo the system with a game that takes full advantage of everything the system does and can do, especially the Gamepad.

Plus, Rayman isn't exactly the kinda game that's gonna blow you away graphics wise, and since Nintendo is trying to rebound from their less then powerful Wii, you'd think they'd demo the console with a game that would simply amaze people with it's graphics and what it can do.

That being said, the Gamepad felt comfortable, even though it's big, it feels great. I have to complain about the distance between the bumper buttons and triggers, when it comes to FPS games, the distance between these buttons is important. I also felt the placement of the right stick wasn't good, but that's most likely due to my constant use of the Xbox 360 controller.

I still don't see a reason to run out and grab a Wii U, but I'll probably get one next year after they get some really good momentum going with games.
No, black ops 2 confirmed it wasn't using the gamepads mic, some developers can choose to. There is a karaoke game that can use an external mic or the gamepad for example. I think Blops2 just didn't want every little brat using a microphone.

May I point out that your only reason for WiiU not having a better online then 360 is because you can only voice chat in online games that initially have it? (Basically any game you'd need to have it in) This is the same as ps3 and I never noticed a game where i felt restricted because i couldn't voice chat. Also you could still handwrite live so even if some 2 player online rpg doesn't support it you could still resort to handwritting i guess. I think I would trade microphone only in most online games for Videochat Pictochat, screenshots, spoiler free discusson, game progress dependent comments, and no cost. your basicly spending $10 a month on chatting with your friends in a few games your not supposed too. I'd rather buy netflix or something.

Not to mention there may be party voice chat. Still no details shown on what benefits there is to having friends as opposed to strangers.

Voice chat will not be standard across all games or even the system itself. Even though the WiiPad has a built-in microphone, it can't be used for voice chat.

So far the only games listed to support in-game voice chat are Assassin's Creed 3, Mass Effect 3 and Black Ops 2. Nintendo has yet to announce voice chat support for any further games, never mind detailed plans of the Wii U's online suite.

You may not point it out, as it shows you've got selective reading. Not having standard voice chat (see above) is one of the reason's I don't see the Wii U having better online then the 360. I also said this:

"Also, Nintendo's unproven when it comes to online, sure they've dabbled in it before, but I have more faith in Sony's online then Nintendo's. It'll be interesting to see how Nintendo handles Black Ops 2 being online."

I've played the Wii online and the DS online, and neither of them were terribly impressive. Nintendo, again, is unproven in this area. For you to sit back and say, "the WiiU will have the best online!" is hilarious, because there's no proof Nintendo knows what it's doing.

(11-08-2012 11:08 PM)Skarro Wrote: [ -> ](Basically any game you'd need to have it in) This is the same as ps3 and I never noticed a game where i felt restricted because i couldn't voice chat. If you really think not speaking with other players who you're playing with in an online game isn't important, you either don't play multiplayer games online or are just blatantly ignoring Nintendo's stubbornness to get with the times and finally bring voice chat in. Play "Black Ops 2" online and let me know how fucking easy it is to write a message on the GamePad while everything's exploding around you, and all you wanted to do was tell your friend where the guy who just killed you is hiding.

No, I'm not spending ten bucks a month to talk with my friends. This is a clearly a sign of ignorance, as you no nothing about what you get from paying for Xbox Live.

- There's always constant sales on various games on demand and arcade games.
- Free apps like Crackle and IE.
- Companies bring DLC first and in some cases, only to Xbox Live.
- Companies will patch their games, thanks to the Xbox Live Gold membership covering the overhead cost of fixing games. For example, Capcom patched up a DLC costume issue with Street Fighter 4 on the 360 but not on the PS3 due to the cost being high and no one was willing to pay for it.
- Better security.....
- Exclusive games, be it Games on Demand or Arcade titles.
- Little to no lag.

See there's plenty of reasons the handful of change I pay per day isn't just for chatting it up with my friends, in fact it does a lot more. From bringing me sales on games to support the games I play and my account security (coughpsnhackcough), there's plenty of reasons to pay for the service.

At the end of the day it really doesn't matter if I pay for Xbox Live or not, we're talking about Nintendo here, and unless they can match the online play, apps, security, and specials that Xbox Live and PSN have, they certainly won't have the best online out of the bunch.
