I guess they're interesting, because it's unknown what they are. But I don't find them scary.

That's given me an idea - why don't we just broadcast a never-ending RickRoll into space so that the aliens can spend years trying to decipher it. See how they like it.
This reminded me of those old TV signal intrusions, where some unknown people hijacked the television signal and replaced it with their own. None of the people have ever been caught.
