I've put a lot of time into both MW2 and MW3, apart from the maps, the guns, the story and the soundtrack, it's the same game pretty much, same engine, same sound, same everything, you only get something different with Black Ops, or WAW, which in turn still goes by the same formula.

The one Misconception I hate is that if you like Nintendo you're a child, the ironic thing is, the games Nintendo makes are in a childish cartoony way aimed at family/gamers, meanwhile COD is aimed at heterosexual 18 year olds, that want to kill everything and everyone, but it's main audience are aged 4-15.

I probably have more, but I can't think of them right now.

Horseshit: They are not the same. You may do the same thing in killing people but that's it. Just like in any Mario or Zelda game where you save the princess or the world, the main point of the games are where the similarities end. COD is not the same game year after year, and anyone who spends time with either companies COD game can tell the difference between them.

MW2 and MW3 were practically the same, no arguing there. Otherwise, mostly true.

No, no they aren't. There's a lot of things that make the games very, very different. Anyone that puts time into the games knows this.

Exactly. People bitch about CoD MW2 and MW3 being the same when it's not. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if "those people" haven't even played the game. The only reason they don't like CoD is because they hate the fanbase (for no reason). I DARE you to make the claim about Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask being practically the same and a have little/much difference as MW2 to MW3 did, you'll get slammed. But when the Zelda fans bitch about CoD (without even playing it) it's somehow a legit argument case.

You're re-using a formula that works.
You know what I love? When people say that people who play games can't form meaningful relationships because all they care about is games, and cannot spend any effort on the relationship. All their money and time will go towards their obsession, and the other person will be pushed aside so the gamer can play.
God, I so love people who also say that all gamers are antisocial idiots, or that no games have any artistic value, or that games make people violent, or...etc. AKA, anything people like Jack Thompson say.

Yes, you use guns to shoot people and the maps are similar, story, etc, yes. However, anyone that's spent any good time with the games knows each game has a very different feel to them. Each game plays differently, and they are not the same year after year. If they were the same year after year people wouldn't stick with one over the other. As it stands now when the new one comes out and people try it, and some stay with the old, some stay with the new. I think MW3 had it the worst. I noticed that after about four months, the amount of players had dropped off, and Black Ops numbers had shot up.
My favorite video game misconception:
The Legend Of Zelda....YOU MEAN ZELDA ISN'T THE BOY????

seriously, my boyfriend doesn't play video games...and he swore Link was Zelda...and I was so mad..xD
That Super Paper Mario sucks and isn't nearly as good as the other Paper Mario games.

That First-Person Shooters are better or more "hardcore" than third-person shooters.

I would probably kill someone if they said that to me. The first, in my opinion, is the best. But off of them were great.

I've heard people say they didn't even play it because it was different. They're missing out big time. I think I would put Super Paper Mario in line with Thousand Year Door (I like them equally) and then Paper Mario falls right behind them. Only because TTYD and SPM did such a good job of improving upon an already great game/concept.

It's a pity they gave it the 'Paper Mario' tag as if had been named anything different people would consider it classic. I admit I prefer Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, but Super Paper Mario is a top notch game and is one of the best games on the system.

I might sound like a douche here, but I loved Super Paper Mario but I never finished it because of the amount of text. I can play Phoenix Wright, Animal Crossing, Zelda or read all the dialogue for Mass Effect but Super Paper Mario really took the piss with the amount of reading you had to do. It's the only time I ever I just thought "fuck it" switched it off and never went back to it.
How the hell could you stand Mass Effect's god damn long words and not Super Paper Mario? When I played ME for the first time, I fucking hated the god damn words and talking scenes.

Even though I didn't find Super Paper Mario to be the best in the series, it was still good in it's own right, the music, the story, the gameplay, it may have been different, but Zelda 2 was different, and it turned out great (hard as hell though) and Mario 2 was different but it was good too.

This game follows that formula, it was great, people only dislike it due to it losing it's RPG and TBS element. It was a great game, and I think it's one of the best wii games out there.
People say pokemon is for kids and people should play CoD
Whine because kids are playing CoD
lolwut
That violent games make people violent. It has been proved (I'll look for the link) that it's the other way around, agressive people look for violent games.

Also, that all games are about violence and murder and blood and guts and need no actual skill or thinking. There's a lot of people who think like that where I live.

There was actually a study that showed that people who played violent video games showed more violent tendencies.

Some more console-specific ones:

That Wii is only for casual gamers.

That XBox is better than PS3.
^

I find it funny that Nintendo are trying to get the hardcore fans with the Wii U, and Sony and Microsoft are trying to get the mainstream and casuals with their Kinect and Move.

Still people can't see through this.
