It says "Eternal Star". It's only also in Ocarina of Time because OoT used the same engine as Mario 64.

What if... Ocarina of Time happens millenia after Super Mario 64 and that this sign is all that remains of the past civilisation

I don't really know what you're going with here, Super Mario and OOT uses the same engine, and therefore the same textures pretty much.

I thought this was going to be a "luigi is in Mario 64 thread"

Have fun wasting about 1 hour looking at all those videos they made.

Exactly. Both games were developed at the same time, it's not surprise that instead of creating a "plaque texture" for both, they make one and use it for both.

Needs to be more done on this. Can't really post it as-is.

actually, this is thought to say that luigi is real in PAPER mario 64, because this is the release date of it.

No one knows why this was in the games files.

What's interesting is that it was placed in both Mario 64 and Zelda OoT. (I understand it's the same engine but is there even a grass or sky texture reused in Oot? Seems this would have been the only surviving piece.) Which means there was a good chance it has meaning, maybe an inside joke.. who knows. It's also interesting to think about what it may have said when it was of higher resolution. as people can't seem to agree. Obviously some of us find it interesting so it's worth a post. There isn't a downside so having more updates more often.

2 months on. Yeah the reason I posted this is to really show why I felt L is real 2401 is meaningless. It's just a texture with no meaning and was used in games outside of SM64
